I was recently given a mare and her 5 wk old filly foal. The foal has been unhandled, but over the last 2 wks I have been trying to gain her trust. I can scratch her withers but if you go anywhere else, the ears go back and she walks away. I can get a foal slip on but only if I pin her up against the wall. I have done this twice but I then have to go back to square one trying to gain her trust again as she tries to kick or lash out with front leg, so Im not too happy on doing it again. I have bred 3 foals before and handled them from day one but this is a new one on me! Does anyone have any ideas?

If you can forget the foal slip and work on getting her confidence scratches, arms loosely round her neck head scratches etc once you can touch her everywhere she'll be easy then you can try a filly slip and or a figure of 8 bandage to lead her

This above.
Can also use a thin longish towel to rub foal, over time you will find you will be able to drop it round her, and round neck. Allow lots of time and patience - and be pleased the dam is amenable - as you could be in a far worse pickle with an unhandled mare too!
Good luck and give it time.
