Universal bit - two reins or 'roundings'?

I am fed up of the small TB horror tanking off with me on a hack - he normally wears a loose ring lozenge snaffle, yes I can stop him quite easily by wrestling him to a slower pace but I really want to stop his habit of sticking his head down, leaning heavily on the bit and tanking off every time we go into canter. Clearly it worked with the little kids when he was a racing pony as they weren't strong enough to stop him!

I have a universal bit for him so am going to try that - I know purists will always say use with 2 reins so you can employ the curb effect separately, but does anyone use one with roundings and if so does it work? I have never used 2 reins so would find roundings so much easier :p
 
There is another option - use two reins and tie a knot in the curb rein so it lies on the neck. Ride off the snaffle but you have the curb in easy reach if you need it.

Roundings will dull the effect of the curb rein, and not give the reprieve of the snaffle.

People do it though.

I have recently used this bit on J who has a bad habit of taking his head a bit low on the approach to a fence .
I use one ride on the bottom ring I have no problem getting him to take a nice contact .
I have used this bit with two reins for hunting and that also works well .
I would just try and see .
I also used this with roundings on one of MrGS's hunters and it worked a treat .
 
I used to use one very successfully on my strong but sensitive TB, I hated the feel of it with 2 reins & with roundings! I used just one rein & had it on the middle ring or the bottom depending how strong he was.
