Today I went to my first league match of the year against Edinburgh Uni, St Andrews, Heriot Watt and us (Glasgow Caledonian). And I came 4th. There was some really good riders there. One even had a union jack on her hat cover - BE styly! Anyone now of any junior eventers you go to edinburgh uni.

My team came last - again!

I'm on Portsmouth uni's riding team and I was quite surprised at how many excellent riders there are in the BUSA leagues. We had 28 people try out for our team! Our team usually does ok, but all the uni's running equine science type courses tend to be particularly well represented. Best of luck for you're next one our first is next wed.

What exactly do you do at the matches? I'm assuming it's an SJ comp or something

Um, she's not there anymore but when I was doing BUSA at Exeter Sarah Dow was doing it with Edinbugh, Union Jack intact! I was very good, I took mine off after two seasons as the rule book says.... Fiona Davidson who did young riders from Hartpury (UWE)was also doing them when I was in my final year.

It's about getting the best out of a horse you don't know really. There are teams of 4 and we get 7 mins warm up then a novice dressage test on a horse you don't know, then 5 mins warm up on a different horse over 3/4 practice fences and onto a 3ft SJ round. Crazy..

Well done- I captained Bristol A team last year and it was fun but got a bit bored of organising it all so I'm not bothering this year. The only advantage with having a UJ is that the dressage judges are quite easily swayed- one of our team members did international uni comps so had one and we used to share it round at important comps

She retired the little chestnut she did the euros on after that, he had a really bad experience and never came right. She had a youngster for a while but gave up soon after, got a flash job, then went back to uni to do a masters, then got another flash job I believe! And oi! it wasn't that long ago

Thanks for the results. Though it was our home comp so at an advantage me thinks. The Uni comps over here are very different to those in Ireland.

Well done and I might see you at some of the others comps
