I had a random conversation with a friend over the weekend about travelling horses. He said when traveling two horses in his Ifor Williams he always unloads the left hand horse 1st (the one furthest away from the front ramp). I on the other hand have always unloaded the right hand horse 1st.

Is there a right and wrong way? What does everybody else do?

If i travelled 2 and used front ramp i would unload horse on right first, swing partition over and unload left horse. I only ever travel one though with no partition and I don't use the front ramp!!

When I travel two we unload the one nearest the ramp first, then move the partition to unload the one on the left. I can't imagine how the one on the left would get out first to be honest! I imagine it must be a 510/511 rather than a 505/506?

this for me too. Sometimes when leading the first horse out we move the front part of the partition over a bit to give him more room to seeing his bum around (without squashing the other one).

Depends which side the ramp is but if I were travelling in a front unload and wanted to unload them I would unload the one in the partition nearest the ramp first.

ubload the one nearest the ramp first, cant imagine how you could unload the one furthest from the ramp safely if both are horses rather than ponies

I've done both as used to take two horses to lessons on my own occasionally and would leave one on the trailer while riding the other. Archie always had to travel on the left so I didn't have the luxury or putting whichever had to come off first on the ramp side. They're both big boys so to get Archie off but leave Monty on, I'd have to open the front of the partition, swing it across as far as M would allow, tuck into the space that created and let A walk past me. He go down the ramp and turn around so I could stay on the trailer to put the breast bar back in place so Monty wouldn't try to come off. Luckily Monty was the good one so would stand sweetly, I think if I tried to do that with Archie he'd have just mowed me down to follow Monty off!

If I was taking them both off, Monty would come off first and I'd then swing the partition over for Arch to come off. Monty found it quite hard to turn to come down the ramp so he'd usually come off the trailer quite straight and step off the side of the front ramp about half way down rather than walking all the way down it. If M was on his own, I'd swing the partition over to the left and he'd go left a bit to give him room to turn to come off and he'd walk down the whole ramp.

I have a 510 and wouldn’t try to get the furthest out first. Always the one closest to the ramp. I think it would still be quite a squeeze and something/someone might get knocked or squeezed in the process!

Thank you everybody you have all put my mind at rest. I have always unloaded the one closest to the ramp 1st although like some have said she does sometimes step off the side of the ramp rather than walk down it as it is still a tight turn. I literally cant imagine how you would get the one furthest away from the ramp off 1st. I will carry on as i have been, knowing i'm not doing anything wrong
