My local supplier, from whom I've bought unmolassed sugar beet shreds for years, now claims he can't get the unmolassed type any more, only the sugar beet with added molasses. I'm not happy about this! Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there no feedmerchant near you that could order you some Speedibeet?
I think I'm spoilt actually here cos whatever I need I can get...if they don't stock it they'll order it in.

Hello You can't get them where I am either, in fact when I asked for them, after not having a horse for about five years, feed merchants looked at me like I was mad, but you definetly used to be able to, stuck with speedibeet now and its much more expensive.

there is a shortage of unmollassed beet this year, Dodson and Horrell can't even get hold of any raw product at the mo....can you not use eurobeet, that is unmollassed, or speedibeet??

As others have said, there is a shortage (apparently there often is, but this year it's happened earlier than usual!). But there are a couple of unmollassed alternatives out there (yep, more expensive!)

yip to feed my big 16.2hh & my 11.1hh i use 1 big handful dry

if you soak ordinary beet in a LOT of water, for a fair time, then pour it into an old bucket with holes in the bottom followed by a rinsing bucket of plain, you will leach out and lose the sugar to a large degree.

I changed to speedibeat this year after using molassed sugar beat pellets. I expected it to end up being much more expensive but wanted rid of the molasses.

I have just started my second bag.....this winter!!, so it has ended up being much more economical than I thought it would be. I feed two from it.
