Just read the news story about Phar Lap:

[ QUOTE ]
It was long suspected that Phar Lap had been poisoned, but this week hairs from the horse's main were analysed by researchers...

[/ QUOTE ]

Honestly, if you need a proof reader prior to publication, I would be only too happy to oblige!

OOOHHH! Misplaced apostrophes!! When I worked in an office I got LOTS of emails that said "Hi Cary's" that's not my name!! My mum and dad didn't put an apostrophe in there! Stupid MS spellchecker!

LOL I am VERY anal about spelling and grammar

Oooooh fantastic - I'm so glad to have found you both!

I, too, am incredibly anal about grammar, spelling and punctuation - and before we go any further, I must confess my obsession with the semi-colon

I used to work for a BIG company and wrote letters for the CEO who didn't like semi-colons and didn't want any in his letters!!! Drove me nuts!! Had to try and write the letters in a way that they wouldn't look stupid without them! He didn't like putting commas in the addresses either! Silly man. Glad I don't have to do that anymore!

Really; MizElz?

I too would like to join the hapless band of grammar sticklers, although to be honest I'm not 100% confident in my own ability so would probably get pulled apart myself!

It is done.............

You know - I'd love to join as it drives me nuts when people use fair to many hyphons in a sentence!! I'm quite comma happy myself but I LOVE the semi colon. Don't even get me started on there, their and they're!!!!!!

argh it drives me mad too, bad spelling especially, my grammer is not always perfect but i try my best lol, seems that they don't teach either in schools any more

and just because i'm middle aged and anl i hate txt spk as well
mad.gif
it's acceptable in texts but not when you have a perfectly functionable keyboard in front of you

best spelling mistake i've seen this week was in an ad for a thurubred

Lol - I saw that link last night when someone asked for an opinion on that horse. Lovely mare by the looks of things!! Just not keen on the grammar or spelling of the advert

Oh PLEASE may I join?

I have reached what we call here the 'third age'. We grew up with no such things as computers or spell checks. We just had regular sessions of learning the words and their spelling, understanding the reasons behind definitions, putting it into practice by writing essays with correct grammar.

I look on that now as a parallel to ground-training a horse. You never forget the basics. They form a solid foundation for whatever direction you may choose to go. (I went on into communications and broadcasting.)

Admittedly, I enjoy the freedom of forum talk - but how pleasant to be a pedant in such pleasant company.

Ooooh! May I join too? I was actually a professional freelance copy-editor/proof-reader in a previous life, and I now write books for a living...

...and I am a dreadful pedant - most of the posts on here make me wince and cringe! So do I qualify to join? Please!

(As we're allowed to be pedantic on this thread: jellyshake - grammar is spelt with an a, not an e, functionable is not a word, and it is customary to start sentences with a capital letter and end them with a full stop.)

Did you all miss in the same article:

'An accidental overdoes' - whats an overdoes????

AND:

' ,detail' - Even spellchecker would have picked that up!

So...can I join too
