Hi, well we've taken the plunge and we're entered for two prelim tests tommorow evening

What was I thinking...

Anyway, the beast was very well behaved last night, and if she goes as well on thursday then we'll do very very well... but she won't go that well... I'm certain.

Anyway I wondered if you knowledgeable guys could help me with a few queries?
First, what to wear?
I have the following
- Black jacket (huge so may look a little silly)
-Navy Jacket (pikeur... I love it, usually use it for my inferquesnt sj'ing though so not sure its suitable for dressage?)
- Hacking jacket (never worn, owned it ages though)
- Black posh show hat, with leather harness
- Navy vented hat.

Which combonation would be best? Would be worn with cream jods and black gloves, and black long boots. But what shirt or tie? I usually wear navy checked shirt with no stock, but thats for sj, have loads of normal shirts though, so one of those? with plain navy tie or pc tie, though I'm not a member anymore, though it is a pc competition...

Wow I've written a lot and thats only one question

The competition itself is on grass so will have to confirm its running tommorow... curse this rain... anyway the mare is shoeless and although will cope fine, I'm worried about slipping as I don't have the option of studs. If she slips in canter for instance, she will hollow and 'break' in the middle and buck

From prior experience, anyway it'll probably fine if the grass is short, but does anybody have any experience with dressage on wet grass?

Last question :P
To plait or not to plait? Its evening dressage and although its half term, from the previous pics I've seen at this venue, not all are plaited, just some. I'm certainly not the worlds best plaiter, but should I try? Or just forget about it? It doesn't say aye or nay on the schedule.

I think thats all

I'm so scared, no wonder a lot of you call it stressage... any help much appreciated...

Id wear your black jacket, black hat with a white shirt and white/cream stock - as it will look smart and is fine for unaffliated level.

Make sure you ride with a nice short rein and sit nice and tall/upright so then you can help elminate the risk of her slipping.

Plaiting is up to you, i always plait - unaffliated or affliated.

I'd plait - just respect for the judge
wear the blue jacket
the posh show hat
plain navy tie
that's what i would wear anyway - it's only unaffiliated!
horsey and i slipped on grass but didn't affect our marks paticularly

I would prefer to wear the posh hat and since that's black I'd go for the black jacket. However as you have a navy tie, I'd go with the navy tie, navy jacket and navy hat (although are vented ones allowed? I suppose they are) unless the black hat looks ok with the navy jacket.
As for plaiting, if it's likely to stress you or the horse in any way then give it a miss. Plaiting stresses me FAR too much so I never do, it's not worth it!
I love dressage I don't know why everyone seems to hate it, good job though as my horse can't jump any more so will be my dressage pony!
Good luck, remember the test, and don't forget to SMILE and have FUN!

Ok so if I go for the black combo, at least for dressage you don't have to wear numbers, otherwise the black jacket would ruck up and look like a sack

I bought it to fit a body protector under... I was wondering, would the navy be allowed? with the vented hat? as the shirt that is navy checked is the only stock compatible shirt I have, or would the black combo with a normal shirt and the pc tie be a better option... who thought this would be so complicated

And one more question (bet you can't wait to get rid of me

)
I only have one white saddlecloth, but its a dressage cut, and I now have a gp saddle... would this go together or would I be better sticking to the brown numnah?

I'm getting my lucky socks ready and the rescue remedy, preparing for a stressful time

I may plait, might have a little go tonight, though if its a disaster then she may go au natural... Shes tb so would suit plaits though

Anyway thanks for all you help so far

Definately the brown numnah, there's no rule saying you have to have a white saddlecloth! A dressage cloth with a GP saddle doesn't look pretty IMO!

Wear what you feel most comfortable in! If your black jacket is too big you'll feel self concious, so better to go for the Navy with the vented hat... I see lots of riders with vented hats even at affiliated now

I agree about the numnah...

At the end of the day as long as you look smart overall and most importantly you enjoy it, you have nothing to worry about!

have fun!

Wear the jacket you prefer and wear the same colour hat as jacket.
The black hat would look smarter but if the blue jacket is more comfortable go for the blue outfit. If you go for the black combo then I would wear the PC tie as it would go better than the navy tie.

As for plaiting, I would plait. Its my pet hate, horses going to dressage competition should be plaited according to their type.
