A support thread, for anyone else who is irrationally compelled to buy rugs that they know for a fact that they really do not need.

I recently found it difficult not to buy my native pony a second HW turnout. He is part bear, unclipped, turned out with plenty of natural shelter and stabled at night with ad-lib hay, but I have a MW turnout and a HW turnout for him, just in case.

He has no need of either one. I know this. Yet I keep on wanting to buy him more rugs. Online special offers are not helping, and the mere smell of a new rug in the tack shop has me checking sizes to see if there is one to fit him.

I need help...:D

I have a confession to make

I couldn't help myself and it did look lovely in the photos. I just bought another rug on ebay this morning. Lovely stable rug. I was the only bidder so it was a bargain price. I do have a TB and he is clipped so he does need lots of rugs, right? But he already has 5 stable rugs.

I need help too

You have the excuse of putting on a fresh stable rug every day. Sorry, I'm enabling :(

Snap! My clipped fluffmeister of a welshie has 3 medium an under-rug and several exercise sheets, all of which are unused...
Is there also an Uneccessary Numnah Buyers Anonymous? How about buckets (of any kind- feed, water, skipping out, just in case... the list goes on).

I'm cursing myself for buying a stable rug first, when my girl is quite happy and comfortable in her already-warm turnout.

I will never buy another stable rug again! unfortunately darn tack shop already has my money! I just thought ooh that's nice and soft, it looks warm, I'd like to curl up in that - my sensible side was shouting HELLOOOO!! she's NOT HUMAN! but lost the argument.

Each of mine have 17 ATM.......
End of this year I need to get:
1 heavy weight turnout as both that small horse owns are looking rough.
2 mediums as the current ones are either too small or used to much and are revolting!
And if I find any cheap cotton sheets I'm am always buying them! Currently have a total of 5.

I only own 2 horses.....

Hmm, perhaps the Unneccessary Equine Related Purchases Society would have been more apt as a title? Apologies. All unrequired purchases are of course welcome.

Although you can never have enough buckets and lead ropes, those things are sentient...they walk off if not constantly supervised!

think my boyfriend would through a hissy if i bought all that least the lead rope doubles as a dog lead :D i do have a weatherbeta dog coat for my terrier :P

yeah....its a bit hard to hide the purple wheelbarrow, fork, shovel and brush though! :-) Luckily, only my daughter and i at home and she doesn't mind at all :-D

I am a terrible rug hoarder, recently saw sense and sold some only to replace them with different ones a few days later ( which werent needed lol) ;)

As for buckets dont get me started hahaha :)

you just got to be prepared, thats what i tell him anyway think i have every horsey mag and read every horsey book i could get my hands on

I have 7 rugs only for show use ONLY and find myself still drawn to a Thermalux rug that I don't need but do want............................

I'm a rug hoarder, love them, issue I currently have is now my mare is on livery I am using the same two all the time but have oodles, at least they are at the yard so no be can see their newness/unused status at home!

Maybe we should sit in a circle

I'll go first,

Hi i am pollyp and its been 7 days since my last rug purchase, a HW stable rug for an Unclipped horse and its 8 degrees at night currently - not getting used anytime soon but it's a fab colour and fit.

There, there :)
Ah thank you.
Though I have just realised the catch... there is no such thing as an Unnecessary Rug... so therefore there is no need for a support group. Just because the rug stays in its bag "just in case", doesn't mean it's Unnecessary. It's definitely necessary to have more rugs in store than you will possibly ever need...

Genius! :D

Hi I'm lurcherlu.... I have five sets of brushing bots in medium that only fit my girls front legs..... We only ride 2 maybe 3 times a week , at the top of my page in the search bar are some more ready to in the basket, plus some tendon boots for when we start jumping..... She's only 3 she had her first set as a yearling..... Opppppps plus side tho only two pairs for her large sized back legs.....

Now ashamed of this I had a pony boot sized pony and sent her back, I kept her boots and now my daughters Shetland looks like he may neeeeed them ( he told me)

I just hate seeing mucky rugs and so make sure I have at least two of each weight for each horse. Now one of my best rugs hs started rubbing my TB on his shoulders and so of course he needs a new one. But it's in great condition so very annoying that it doesn't suit him (it was originally my late mare's). But I just get addicted to collecting rugs. I like them to look new and so once they are mucky they get hosed off and put in the washing machine with nicwax.

There's no such thing as an 'unnecessary' rug. Every rug has it's purpose and if that purpose is to make you feel happy - that's good enough for me :D

Go out - buy rugs - lots of rugs - you always need spares... and 'spare' spares :P
In denial and proud of it

Kali has approx 30 plus rugs . . . I need help :(.

P
That's impressive!

Any chance of of a break down of the types of rugs that Kali has amassed?
I don't really hoard rugs, but I can never quite bring myself to chuck out the nearly-but-not-quite worn out ones, so they just clutter up the place.

My vice is bits and saddle pads/numnahs!
