Unnecessary stuff that people do on yards

i dont like it when ive just ridden and mucked out and keep all my stuff tidy and sweep up round the feed room while my feed is soaking and then i have to get home to get my uni work done and some one buts in which well it looks like me and so and so are doing the yard again. im like ffs there are more then 10 people on this yard and only 4 areas to tidy. ive done one if you between u do another then there 7 people to do one persons 20 min job.

oh and people who have ponys and keep then clipped and trimmed and spotless all winter when they dont ride more then once a week and dont show. why cant animals be animals. fair enough if they are doing a job but they are pets.

Do you mean things that others do that you wouldn't sort of thing?

In which case I can't understand why people spend hours mucking out their stables until they are spotless, just to do it all again the next day! I am master of the 5 minute muck out, but if they enjoy it then good for them. There is one lady who washes the floor with a bucket and brush and then washes her wheelbarrow every single day, where do they find the time?!

I don't like it when people hose legs off when its freezing cold and they don't need the horses legs clean, I wouldn't do it to mine.

Can't think of anything else really, there probably is stuff.

The most unnecessary thing imo is people interfering & passing judgements.
I clip, trim & keep mine clean in winter when she only gets ridden at wkend, don't really care what anyone else thinks tbh.

Putting rugs on fat cobs in 17degree heat. spending hours debating if said cob will be warm enough without his hood. Bringing cob in to change rug to full neck as "it looks a bit cloudy" Hanging about yard waiting for vet on emergency call out for lamanitic cob.

One thing that really gets on my nerves is the people that sweep outside the stable, then muck out while throwing half the bedding outside the barrow, only to sweep up outside again.....its just pointless and really annoys me

also people who try and sweep shavings up in the wind when its dry....its not going to happen just save yourself some time

There are plenty of things I wouldn't do that others do, I'm sure there are things I do that others wouldn't do too!

.

Oh, that's me! I have to have the bed stacked up neatly in the corner, and the floor has to be swept spotlessly, including the corners... and I like the floor to dry off completely before I put the bed back down later.
Yes I know I'm making work for myself but I just can't do it any other way. Thankfully I only have one to muck out :D

Agreed ^^
I don't see the problem with clipping my horses out if i only ride at weekends?!
I clip all mine - my mare gets ridden at weekends only in winter.
I also clip my sec a out that doesn't get ridden at all
I have allergies and cant cope with the hair in spring - also i find they are unbelievably itchy when losing their coat and end up breaking rails in the field itching themselves - they are much happier come spring without all that itchy hair to deal with.

Glad its fine by you Madeleine 1. Big relief. Tbh provided the horse is cared for I couldn't care less what others do or don't do if it doesn't affect me.

I don't mind what people do whilst they are at the yard. It's their time to spend how they wish. If they want to have a coffee and a chat who I am to pass judgement?

Cleaning yard with the hose pipe really gets me as well as filling huge buckets of water to soak hay only to throw out and refill!! Very irritating when it then freezes!

i can understand this and clipping out for once a week i can understand if thats how you want to keep them its just the keeping them sort of show ready i dont get but nvm.

according to some i shouldnt have an opinion and answer light hearted equestions on forums.

Madeleine 1- you are completely entitled to your opinion. But if you actually asked why people do things you may get a more positive response in future & learn something from it.

I'm just well jell when people keep their horses so immaculate looking...I don't seem to have time. I dont like the incessant leg washing in winter though, causes mud fever and must be uncomfortable

Well i'm clear then cos mine certainly aren't show ready! ;)
This is the little grotty boy! Muddy but certainly fluff free :D

Mozlar- agree entirely on the constant leg washing. Not because I think its unnecessary but more because like you I think it increases the likelihood of mudrash.

-People that don't let there horses cool off and put them straight out into the field dripping with sweat particularly in winter!!!

-People putting all kinds of gadgets on their horse, when they are a saints!

-People smoking around the horses, as we had a huge fire at our yard a year ago caused by our farrier.

Agree with the above.

At my old yard, a new livery had a 4 year old piebald mare. Everyday when bringing said mare in from the field, she would wash all four legs with cold water, CLEANEX (sp) hand wash and a nail scrubbing brush!!! didn't even cut it for me.

I don't really care what people think, I do what I think is best for my horses. Many of the things that some think is unnecessary isn't, it's just them that can't be bothered because they're being lazy.

Things that do annoy me though are things that are detremental to the animals health. An example is someone who finishes an hours work in the school, walks their hot sweaty horse back to the stable, takes the tack off, puts them in the stable, gives them their feed & goes home. Gone off the yard within 5-10 mins from finishing riding. This doesn't happen where we are now but used to happen alot at a previous yard. :(

Do you mean in a time and motion sort of way?

I don't think it's relevant really. People just want to spend as much time as they can with or near their horses so they faff about:D

When they can't do that they come on here and join the rest of the horse bores;)
