Unplanned dismounts (annoying falls)!

Did this today. Worst fall of my 32 year riding career I think, but least painful - so far anyway!

Horse, saddle and I all ok.

Jeepers, FW, that was a proper horse fall. Glad you're both ok. Had to smile (wryly) though when you mentioned how the saddle was ok, too (I know you've kissed many frogs before finding this make and fitter :) ) so I bet you were concerned about it.

I think it does that because of the 'fail' vids and quite a few people make up horse 'thrills and spills' I find the ones when us silly people inflict silly ouchies in themselves through entirely silly but voluntary behaviour. Not when it involves animals or horses- far too much risk to find funny for me.

Ah thanks, I see!

Admittedly, I have had silly/ funny falls. Several were from my first few rides. This little mare would trot, stop and drop me in a quite amusing fashion! I would forward roll out of the front door. It was all slow motion and she was tiny. No harm done and apparently, learning to drop and roll was a beneficial part of my riding education .

Then there was the time when I thought I had finally grasped the concept of vaulting for PC games. Chose to show off my new found skill in the field, in front of friends, vaulted up, swung my leg, was momentarily seated before slithering excruciatingly slowly off the other side.

One of mine stopped dead once and proceeded to scratch behind his off side ear with his off side rear. I think it was a fit of giggles which got me that time!

I have thirty years worth of this stuff . There have been some very, very unfunny falls both witnessed and experienced but I prefer to remember the silly ones, where no-one was hurt.

Always annoying when it's in front of people who've not seen you ride before.. It's impossible to convince them you you actually can ride! Haha.

I fortunately don't have too many as my chunky Welshie has a lot to hold on to and is quite predictable. I did have an annoying one this summer though.. Out XC Schooling with the RC and he was being his awesome self, I had a friend there taking photos. He jumped a ditch about 4 foot for no reason - friend got a great photo of this! Then straight onto another ditch but I hadn't taken into account the giant leap he had just put in, which had obviously scared him a bit. He went to take off and then pondered, very unlike him so I'm already forward, lower leg not on or secure so landed on his neck, poor boy didn't know what had happened so skipped round to get away from me hanging onto him (as I rarely come off, he doesn't know what is happening!) I landed on my feet and then between all of the legs, he stood on my ankle and tripped me over!

Of course... My friend didn't get any photos of it!

Ha thank you. Neck and back a bit stiff today.

Saddle was a major worry because it's the only one I have to ride both my horses in! New one which is for Daisy, isn't here yet, and I'm on a training clinic thing all week with both of them. I wouldn't mind riding Daisy bareback but definitely not Peaches lol. Had a lesson on P an hour later and she tripped at the same point over some trotting poles and I thought she was going to ditch me as well!

Must say it's an excellent surface to fall on. Daisy seems none the worse and I am not too bad all things considered!

My first fall off Sam was last year, he'd been backed a few months! we were trotting around the school, he got a cough and pulled his head down, then tripped over and landed on his knees and I rolled off over the side of his neck!

The second fall, we were cantering along the side of the river, this summer, there were 100's of horse flies and for some reason he put his head down again! and off I came over his head!

The third fall, we were out hacking again! we had a few battles about going forward and I finally got him trotting, then he broken into canter and dropped his shoulder and again off I came flying over his shoulder!

I'm sure there is a theme there!!

I've had some daft falls but think this is in the top three! I'd had Mini Cob for about a month and had given him a lovely bath on the morning for our first lesson together. My instructor is also his old owner and she hadn't seen him since I got him so wanted him to look nice. I'd chalked him, show sheen-ed him, the lot. Had my lesson, he was fab. Untacked him, was about to turn him out and picked up the show sheen bottle instead of fly spray by accident..sprayed him all over but thought nothing of it. Then decided oh yes, I'll jump on him in the school and then ride him to the field, keep in mind mini cob had never been ridden bareback before. Took him into the school with just his head collar and jumped on. He shot off out of the gate and back to his stable, completely ignoring me. I jumped off, took him back to the mounting block and thought try again. The second I got on, he went trotting off down the school (it was on a very steep slope) and swung around the corner...I slipped out the side door. My instructor and mother were watching and I dont think I've ever lived it down. Lesson learned, don't show sheen your horse and then ride.
