Unregistered Sports Horses

Hi all,
A friend of mine has a few really lovely sports horse youngsters, their breeding is known and goes back to Ramiro Z lines but all are entirely unregistered and on Pet ID passports. Realistically what sort of hit on price would you be expecting to take if any? In other words, if you had two identical youngsters but one was fully registered and the other had no papers whatsoever how much less would you be willing to pay/accept for the unreg one.

With 'known breeding' that isnt recorded, it's one persons word.
Unless a registering body permitted full blood typing to prove this (and most dont after the 1st year, or after 31st December), the youngstock are just unregistered unrecorded but passported animals. They are unlikely to command much of a price till backed and working, then would be worth what someone was willing to pay for the animal in front of them.

I'm probably not explaining my reasoning well, but without any recorded breeding (that might be desirable) they would be a good bit less than one with recorded breeding, imho.
 
Unrecorded breeding means nothing. Otherwise we could all just make up fake histories for any horse.

We’ve a few that are “believed to be by” and they are lovely horses. But you can’t sell them for anything like the price of the recorded ones. You pay the cost of dna and proper passports for a reason.
 
I would look at it the other way round from how you've phrased the question - a generic youngster of particular type and no recorded breeding is worth x. And then recorded breeding of one sort or another is different amounts of premium on top. 'Known' but unrecorded breeding is worth diddly squat as an add on to a youngster's base value.

Generally because of the 6 month legal timeline to get a foal passported. If a breeder falls out of that timeline because of whatever life reason then they have to pretend they lost the passport and the vet will "re-passport" the youngster on a generic pet ID replacement passport with no recorded breeding
 
@DabDab yes, as far as i know that’s pretty much what’s happened in this situation which is a huge shame! made sure my own was registered within about a week of her being born as both parents have great lines so obviously would be crazy not too.
 
Mine has the stallion registered on the passport but not the dam. It didn't make one bit of difference to what I would pay. He was backed but had no record of anything. I don't even know what breed the dam was, looks like it might have been a connie???

I bought the horse not the parentage.

The last horse I paid a lot for, the seller made a lot about the breeding. Meant nothing to me! Again, I fell for the horse. Had no idea who Hermes De Reve was, couldn't even say it right 🤣

They seem to make a lot of what colour the passport is too LOL>
