What is it with some people?

I take on occasional help with the ponies.

Why are applicants so unreliable?

Someone sounds quite good and is enthusiastic. A suitable date and time is arranged for an interview. They sound keen enough but no one turns up!

Do the unemployed get brownie points from the DSS just for applying? I've discussed this with friends and they have similar experiences so it obviously isn't just me.

Same thing when it comes to people coming to look at a pony. They make an appointment, then don't turn up. I'd be embarrassed if I was ten minutes late, never mind not turning up at all!:eek:

Meh - some people are just funny buggars and either couldn't be bothered to turn up or were just attention seeking/messing about.

They must be mad, I'd love to be in your part of the country :cool: Mind you, I am always late, for everything, so I'd drive you mad too :D
 
It works the other way too...

Nothing worse than someone organising you coming over to help them FOR FREE... then not turning up without a text or a call or ****** all.
 
^ ^ ^ You seem to have a bit of a theme going one here today - what's the issue ? If it is with an individual member, keep it private. Bad form otherwise. :confused:
 
I still havent had an apology. Clearly this member is not incapacitated or they would not be back posting.

Its not affecting you either way is it?
 
No, just that you are coming across as a bit :confused: tbh. If it's a private thing, why air your laundry in public ? I don't think your approach is going to work. And I doubt anyone else knows who you are referring to.

You've just reminded me I have my seasonal sig up. I should go and make a new one :)

Left, right and left of middle are all Fergs. Right of middle pic is my younger one, Daemon. The trouble with duns is coat change means he can look different in different pics depending on coat etc ;)

Dry Rot, I've had that happen twice in the last year! In my case, both had advertised for work and I offered some, both times I knew them, we hacked out and discussed it all, they were keen to do it, we organised for them to come over so I could show them everything, and both times they never turned up. The second one text several hours later and rearranged, then didn't turn up again!

I guess its better to know before you're supposed to be depending on them!
 
It seems to be particularly bad up here in the Highlands where jobs are few and far between at the best of times. I suspect they find it far more comfortable being on the dole and then it becomes a habit.

That's why I wondered if they justfy their unemployment to the DSS by saying, "Look, I really AM trying to get a job. Look at all the interviews I've been granted", but then fail to mention that they haven't turned up for a single one.

It is not just you. I work in HR and the amount of interviews we arrange, chase people up to confirm they are attending and who say they are coming and then don't turn up is astounding.

But yes the answer to your question about the DSS - basically when you are unemployed you are asked to fill in a 'looking for work diary' which you list any jobs you applied for and any interviews attended. You can say you had the interview and that you requested an application form for a job. No one checks to see if you did, they just check to see if there are at least 6 entries from the last time you signed on. I know this as I was made redundant last year and had to sign on for a bit till I found a job. I was shocked at how lapse it all was.
 
I feel your pain! I had a most bizarre telephone interview with a guy applying for a p/t groom position. He had some experience of looking after horses but he freely told me that fundamentally he was a dancer. Well, I said, that's very nice, how much of your time does dancing take up? Apparently it was seasonal so he would go to auditions all the time but never know when he might get a job. OK, asks stupid me, what would happen if you were working here and then got a dance job? At least he was honest in saying that he would be off like a shot!

Thanks for confirming that.

The one who has just left confided that she really didn't want to work. I don't think she has gone to another job as she let slip it was not worth her while! Apparently, things have been tightened up recently as her case worker said a couple of years ago they would have bought her a computer and a car (to start her own business?) -- as well as the free house she gets now!:rolleyes: I hope I heard wrong as it's my and your taxes that pay for it all.
