Following on from my posts about barefoot TB's last week...took some photos yesterday and just wanted your opinions on them please.

I'll PM photos to anyone who wants them :)

Horse has just started hacking out as from monday, popped a couple of XC jumps y/dday and was not footy or sore anywhere [roads, grass, tracks, streams, hills, etc] other than going across the car park [stones and gravel] coming back [I got off and walked him across anyway] went SJ'ing on Saturday fine [even though it was v.v.muddy and slippy, a lot of the others were slipping but he coped better than I thought...We had one teeny tiny slip on the jump off, but that was my fault as I nearly went to the wrong jump and had to hooey round last minute to the correct one and angled it! Bless him].
Feet aren't cracking like they used to [they used to around the clenches loads and were very 'dishy' and contracted heels.]. A little chipped for a couple of mm round the bottom, but nothing major.

Due for another trim tomorrow, so do look a little worn. But much much better quality and so much harder than they were before! He's been unshod about 6 weeks now.

Anywho...photos sent to anyone for opinions :)
 
I would but I'd rather not get negative feedback publically lol [Previous threads, skinny mare, BSJA, etc...how they turned out postwise lol] hence why I prefer to PM photos when it comes to asking for opinions on here. Annoying as that is I know, sorry! :) :(
 
Please can I see pics...? I have an unshod TB and would be interested to compare my boy's progress with another.
No negative feedback, i promise.

Sorry to be cheeky but I have sent you pics of my TB feet (she is now on 3 weeks of having them off) Please can you give me your opinion based on what you have gone through. I do have a BF trimmer coming tomorrow to give them a tidy and hear what she thinks about keeping her BF going forward :)

They may well do,but if they are better then they were... ;)
Sounds like he is doing better without the shoes then with,so assuming you trust your farrier go with what he says and your gut feeling!
Personaly,I owuld rather have good quality feet without shoes then with,and from talkign to friends/reading people's experiances it aseems that once the foot is in good condition again,popping shoes back on if needed is not such a big deal.

Could I have a look at the pics too please? Don't think I have anything else of use to say,but adore TB's and am always at a loss as to why peope say they can't manage without shoes.
 
Can send you anything right now as I'm on the mobile but I've got interesting pictures of mine's progression of shoes coming off in feb to now where I've almost got a whole new foot.
I also have pictures of when he first went lame and they show his feet getting progressively worse through 6 months of box rest and remedial shoeing.
I'll put something together when I get home.

My TB has just had to be retired due to a DDFT tear not healing and as a result, I'm looking to reduce costs as much as possible and considering keeping him barefoot as he won't be hacking on roads or the like anymore.

He's barefoot on the backs anyway but worried tho cos his heels are quite low at the front and he does feel it on stones, etc, if he loses a shoe as it is. Do they get harder if left?

he is competing affil elem, schooling adv med, hacks and jumps, and is never sore or lame.

he has NONE of the problems associated with *typical TB feet*-they are not weak, brittle, flat, and dont bruise. he's got hard, round pony feet and i dont envisage him ever needing shoes.
i fully intend for him to be a shoeless GP TB!!!!(gasp!)
 
Well, tried this with my Tb. After about 3 weeks, she was taking big lumps of foot off, and this was only on field rest, no work, nadda. She's been on hoof supplement for 4 months too "Hoof First". Her feet have the tensile strength of a cobweb - bummer!:(
