A couple of weeks ago I posted on here about my new horse who I was having trouble with napping, spinning round etc.

Thanks to everyone that replied and I thought you would like to know I persevered with him. I still can't hack him alone but I arranged a couple of hacks with others and he was good as gold, I have an experienced rider coming to hack him out alone for me to get his confidence and I even got to go in the school without any hiccups.

We are just doing little things day by day and building on it even if its just taking him for a walk inhand and I feel as though we might just make it!

well done! I've been going through the same thing with my new boy. I'd say I'm a competent novice but never been faced with a bad napper.....

I've found that lunging is helping - he's listening to my voice more now when in the saddle too which is good!

Fab, glad you are getting somewhere and feeling positive.
I missed your post, but know what is like to find yourslef with something unsuitable. I didn't persevere. So hats off to you. Well done

Keep up the brilliant work, you'll soon gain confidence in each other. I didnt read your original post so dont know your or your horses history but one thing i found with twigs is that when it starts open your rein and keep turning in very very tight circles then send him forward - even if its not in the original direction you had planned to go, at least its going somewhere!

Oh and if its any consolation, people keep telling me the naughty ones usually end up the best

Well done, I know exactly what your going through - after months of leading out in hand I have managed to hack my boy alone for 10mins at a time on three occasions now. Mini steps for most people - but major ones for the likes of us!!

Remeber there will be good and bad days, but those good ones and the sense of achievement, really pay off :-)
