My boy is being rested following a vet diagnosed ligament strain 3 weeks ago. I cold water hose twice a day and feel the leg for any changes. In the last two days i have noticed a strong digital pulse in the bad leg that is not present in the other 3. Im sure it wasnt there before. He is not a laminitic (got one of those so am reasonably familiar). Has anyone else come across a strong pulse in a damaged leg? i will consult the vet incase its an infection .

A strong digital pulse is generally due to some traumatic changes occuring, or as a direct result of trauma.

agree with Tia. increased bloodflow to the leg to promote healing would cause an increased digital pulse, wouldn't it? i'd check to make sure that hoof wasn't much warmer than the other one though, and if it is, check with your vet.

Yes my mare had increased digital pulse when she first injured her leg (thought to be annular ligament issue) about 5 weeks ago, so it can just be inflammation, not necessarily laminitis.

could be inflammation/healing? or possible abscess dare I say it? Would check with vet, but could just be getting better, I had a check lig go with frankie years ago, he went the same way and put fear of god in me! - turned out was inflammation causing bigger pulse....it sort of got worse before it got better.
