Unusual filly colour..

What colour would you say my filly is? I know youngsters change as they get older and I have also heard twitterings that this years weather has meant dilute youngstock are looking lighter.. Im looking and thinking a smokey dun and white, which I think would look rather eye catching!

Any other ideas? Ive also been told she may grey out but Im not sure as she isnt exactly grey/dark...

Anyway a few photos for people to have a look over..

aw she is reslly pretty.

There is quite a bit of grey on her face, don't be surprised if she greys out.

My friends horse is grey and his passport says dun, so I expect he may have been similar to yours.
 
She looks like bay roan and white to me or dun roan and white.

ETA: Looked again and definitely has the dun gene due to the dark face mask and dorsal stripe. But looks to also have the roan gene and tobiano. Lovely girl.

Lemon and white is a palomino tobiano/overo. Filly has a black mane and tail so not a palomino 'base'.

Without knowing the colour of sire and dam she could be any number of other colours genetically :)

Sorry, was just a passing & just wanted to comment on how gorgeous she was. Not a coloured pro :cool::( Would make sense though I spose :D
 
She is pretty isnt she :D Proud mummy much!! lol

Her dam was cremello PBAxconnie and her sire is a bay and white tabino PBA .. she works out at about 37% arab.

I hate to say it, and I should be shot a dawn for saying it as she will still be my baby but I wouldnt want her to grey out.. Id like her to stay as she is, perhaps a little bit more golden ;)

If neither parent was grey she can't grey out :D

These are your possible options

29.17% buckskin tobiano
29.17% buckskin (which obviously she's not)
16.67% palomino tobiano (again, not)
16.67% palomino (not)
4.17% smokey black tobiano
4.17% smokey black (not)

My bet would be buckskin tobiano :D

So sorry EDickens, I didn't mean to upset you but was trying to clear things up a bit. I'm a genetics geek, sorry :o :o
 
Cremello is one of the few colours where grey doesn't always show so it is not unknown for a cremello to throw a grey foal.
At the moment your filly is definitely buckskin tobiano. Probably with sooty and grey cannot be discounted yet.
The grey test is cheap and not a bad idea for a cremello if there is grey behind a double dilute.
 
She can't be grey, or dun, as neither parent are.

So, buckskin tobiano for me.She's very pretty :)

Edited to say I guess her sire (cremello) 'could' have dun but she looks more buckskin colour rather than yellow dun.
 
Hi Rhino, sorry I don't have a clue. He used to belong to my riding school.

I just know that there are several horses in the area about the same age that have very similar colouration, so I'm guessing either the dilution or the tobiano come from dad, whoever he is ;)

Thank you everyone though, I will just sit and hope for a buckskin tobino I know, I know... very shallow :( ( I do think though when buying babies you can be a little bit more choosey over colours!! :o)

I also do not have a clue why I said a dun in my first post.. I knew she wasnt a dun! lol My brain sometimes!! lol :rolleyes:

She so knows how lovely she is though and has the arab spirit sometimes - has jumped out the stable, over a 5 bar gate and a 4ft by 3ft6 thick hedge (didnt clear it so well as the other obstacles!) though I guess some of the jumping is coming from her connemara genes. She will be the looks of things make at least 15hh possible 15.1, which will be a nice change when Im breaking as I have another buckskin colt who is 15hh already and only rising a year!! :eek:

She sounds fab :D As S4S says, you can rule out grey entirely by doing this test

It looks like there is something affecting the solid patches which is more than dappling. I would question whether there was some sort of 'varnish' type gene included in there, but that goes a bit beyond my current understanding :o

I will get her tested, also see on their form they do DNA testing which is handy as got to get my colt's passport sorted, he came with no know parentage on his passport - complete mess up with passports by Sports Horse UK! So will get him done at the same time, even though I know his parentage - Ramiro, Jetset, Lagruff.. :)

I think the dam must be a grey cremello, to me she looks out and out buckskin and white that is greying out.
as rhino says the only way of knowing without waiting is a DNA test but pretty sure you'l be disappointed and she will be grey soon!! :o
