Unusual lump?

Noticed yesterday when washing my grey mare's legs she has about a 20cm long lump that is quite swollen and hot just between her two front legs where the girth goes so can't ride her at the moment and she seemed quite uncomfortable with it in the middle of it. She had some bute last night and this morning and had some aloe vera on it and went out today and it did seem to have gone down a bit tonight but was wondering if anyone had an idea what it was? Was wondering it could be a bee or wasp sting as even when she had a fly bite they came up quite large and swollen

Is it fluidy? Or firm? Could be abscess bruising or a sign of gut heart or liver disorder. If it doesn't improve over the next few days get your vet out. In the meantime cold hose bute and turnout.
 
About a dozen possible causes but most common are:
insect bite, bruising from a kick (or even lying on a rock or own foot!), over-girthing - and then releasing too quickly. Ditto glenruby - cold hose, arnica, bute, turnout - and call vet if it changes, gets bigger etc.
 
Please everyone else reading this it is not a good idea to give horses bute like it's aspirin. It can complicate some conditions and make it difficult for a vet to diagnose what's wrong if you need one.

This pony did not need emergency bute if it was only sore when the owner tried to put a girth on the lump.

Cptrayes saw it before i rode her luckily and she was sore without it when i touched it and thanks everyone thats what i have been doing going to look at it again tonight and if its still a bit hot and the swelling hasnt gone down a bit more going to ring the vets and see what they say thanks everyonr

Agree with this ^^
I'm sore if i get stung or bit by a fly but i don't take painkillers.

OP - Sounds like a bite or sting or a girth gall of some kind.
