Last night and this morning Tassy has made some unusual poos- normally they are reasonably soft about 5inches - but still solid and easy to pick up in the poo bag.

Last night and this morning they were really small like the size of brazil nuts and really hard, and she stopped twice this morning to pass them. Any ideas if this is bad or not and what might cause it?

(p.s I cant believe i'm actually discussing her poo.....)

What do you feed her? If she's on barf I'ld guess you've just got the bone content of her last meal a bit too high. A tin of sardines should sort! Oh....and hard bullets like you've described are great for emptying the anal glands! :D

On a slightly worrying note a friend of mine started the same with small poos and showing signs of collic. It didnt stop after a few hours (only minor signs) so called the vet, it turns out there were several tumours blocking the intestine and as he was old was not going to survive the travel and operation required to cure this so ended up being put to sleep - my advice is to call the vet for there opinion if it does not clear up in the next 6-12 hours.

Hope she's ok - keep us informed

Personally I'd be worried if my two's wern't firm, but then they are raw fed. A dog on a Natural diet should be firm so if on a commercial feed then ask the company and your vet for advice.

Is it possible that she has eaten something natural like a mouse or bird or something because that would do it?

She gets a senior dog kibble and always either one of the following three with each meal- Sardine/Egg/Rabbit (we are rural so local farmer gives us a lot of these which we usually stew/make a curry from but we also chop some and freeze it for Tassy)

Was just concerned at how small and hard they were compared to normal- shes the same as usual in terms of attitude and activity- and has been weeing as normal.

Her poo is alays firm enough to hold its shape when you pick it up- i.e it doesnt squidge everywhere. In terms of a mouse etc- she's really not very fast anymore (8 years old) and we have small animals at home so isnt really bothered by them- she doesnt chase pheasants anymore etc so I would be suprised if this was the cause.

Will keepan eye on her tonight and see if she passes anything.
