I have 2 boxes of unwanted and not opened Gastrogard (horse was sent home from hospital with masses of it but last 2 boxes are not needed).

I have just spoken to my vets to ask if I can return it and get a refund but have been told no, apparently there is a law which means drugs can not be returned.

Obviously this stuff is seriously expensive so I would like to get rid of it rather than leave it sat in my feed room. Anyone have any ideas as to what I could do with it? Could I put it on ebay or something?

Personally I'd keep hold of it - if your horse has experienced problems with gastric ulcers then chances are even after the course of Gastrogard they'll return - so you'll need to use it again - Sorry!

Problem is I can't afford to hang onto it. I have already spent nearly £600 on the bloody stuff (not covered by insurance as existing condition) and I have a massive bill following her 2 1/2 week stay at hospital.

It is a POM, but I don't see why your vets won't take it back. Mine are forever prescribing drugs that my herd refuse to ingest....and they are always happy to take them back.
It's safer for the environment too...as drugs are hard to dispose of without problems.
I'd go back in and try to encourage them to take them back and refund you.

I've tried to reason with them but they are not having any of it. Apparently there is a new legislation which means it would be breaking the law if they were to take them back and give me a refund... or so they tell me?
