Hiya,

Sorry new poster here (long time lurker!) so hopefully I will be putting this in the right section.

What do people do with their unwanted horse feed? I have about 4 bags worth of sport horse mix that sadly I won't be able to use. It was removed from the bags and it is in a bin. It seems a shame to throw so much good feed away! Everyone seems to want it in the original bag, rather than from a feed bin, which I can understand! Are there any horse charities which would take this?

I'd happily take it for any of my rescues it might suit if you were close enough. Google "horse rescue/sanctuary" and your county and you will come up with someone who would be glad of it. If you are in an area I know I could point you to someone.
Oh, and welcome ;)

We have only taken full bags and a few vouchers, to HAPPA, but they were greatfully received. I'm sure that if you can bag it in something and tell them what it is, any sanctuary would be pleased to have it. I took some quite expensive dog food (which we sadly no longer needed) to the dogs trust, I was ignored by the staff and while I didn't do it for thanks I did feel they were rude.

I would happily bag it and pop it down to a centre nearby. I am having a quick browse online now but I am on Kent/Surrey border if anyone happens to know of anywhere. Thank you for your advice :)

Having a bit of inside knowledge I will warn you that most larger animal rescue charities won't use feed that has been opened - dogs/horse/cats whatever. They may well take it off you, saying thank you very much, as they hate to turn any kind of donation away and want to encourage people to come to them, but it will invariably end up in the bin as they aren't allowed to use it by high up!

I can't speak for smaller rescues, who may well very much appreciate it. You could try one of those if there is one. If not, you could try advertising on facebook - presumably your fb friends all know you, and realise you are trustworthy, and would maybe appreciate the extra feed?

I too am on the Kent/Surrey border and would be happy to collect it from you if you have no luck elsewhere?
