The traditional stereotype of a thief is somebody who only operates during the cover of darkness but in reality thieves do venture out in daylight! So dont drop your guard in daylight, leave gates open, switch the CCTV off, leave saddles out on view (either in your vehicles or in your yards) unless somebody is going to be around all of the time. As the owners of £900 worth of stolen tack in Bedfordshire discovered it only takes 3 minutes for somebody to enter your yard and steal what youve left out. Some commercial yards now only operate a By Appointment only system for visitors. This idea is well worth considering because then everybody knows when a stranger is expected on the yard.
