Hi I’m after some advice regarding my horsebox.

I have a 2016 3.5t renault master with a payload of 800kgs. I want to carry more than one horse so I want to up-plate it but I’m struggling to get information about how to go about this. I’ve been told the most I can go up to is 3.95t but I was really hoping to go to 4.5t . Selling the box isn’t really an option, I think it’s down to the rear axle bearing weight, is this something that can be modified? Adding another 450kgs still won’t give me enough to transport two horses.

I’d appreciate any help please!

Thanks
😊

I'm hoping to do similar with mine, you need to check Your V5 to see the design weight I think. You definitely won't be able to up rate it to 4500kg, possibly 3900kg. I'm going to speak to DVLA, I was advised by a friend it should just be a paper exercise

You should be able to update to 3.95 going to 4.5 depends on the chassis. It used to cost about £1000 which is mostly for the paperwork / inspections. Your road tax / insurance should then be a bit less. If you need an extra 0.5 could you consider changing some of the internal fittings if you have any such as heavy partition or head guards. Most lorries tend to hold their value so you may be able to sell to someone wanting to downgrade to a 3.5 from a 4.5 if you’re lucky.
