Update - excellent news

Following on from my rather dier thread last night, the vet came along this morning. Firstly hes given Rocks a new inhalor that will have an immediate effect (where as the other one had a longterm build up effect)
Secondly - the reason the inhalor wasn't working - he watched me do it and i was doing it perfectly, but Rock, the little bugger wasnt inhaling it!!! He was doing a little snif then exhaling again!!! Little sod lol so now i have to lunge him for 5minutes before the inhalor, so hes breathing heavier so will actually inhale properly!! lol

Vet listened to his lungs and was shocked - he said they are sounding the best they've ever sounded!!! SO happy with that. and his bloods came back clear and perfect.

So vet is REALLY positive! He said he can stay in normal work and start undergoing fitness work - and hes positive that he will be fit for my lesson with Mary King on the 9th!! So yay - absolutely the best news ever!! He said if he coughs while im exercising him i have to ride him through it and keep going - and that i should see an immediate effect by the end of the weekend with this new inhalor

I'm soooo happy i dont think anything can bring me down right now lol yep will get lotsa piccies of Mary king - two days before im spending a day with william fox pitt at a competition as well (my friend won a day with him and gave it to me, thank you again SOOOO much jenny!!) so gonna be a good week that week lol

Thank you i cannot express my relief - yesterday i was thinking he would have to be retired at 6years old and now i've got my horse back!! Thrilled - my vet is definately going to have to be added to the xmas card list this year!

Ria - will ask vet about that inhalor, £99 is very expensive! But would certainly be a lot easier than lunging him (and even then he sitll doesnt take all the puffs, little bugger) Also i don't know if he'd let me do that, hes letting me do the baby inhalor but if his nose was completely covered i think he would freak out? Will still ask the vet though if i'm still struggling by end of the weekend!

I may get shot for this but when our old pony went to Leahurst she needed to be put under respiratory 'pressure'. To get her breathing heavily, they put a bin-bag over her nose. As the oxygen decreased, she breathed faster. Was easier than lunging and much quicker. It may not be appropriate, but I thought I'd mention it.
