Update from the girl who is 'ruining her horse' part 2

I think if the OP had of posted the video without showing the first video this thread would have been utterly different.

Sorry but I think it's unfair on the horse to have legs with spurs flapping like that (unless they are dummy spurs then I apologise) and you need to work on relaxing your elbows more which will help your hands, think about going with the movement of the horses head more.

..so why don't you offer to go and demonstrate? Or give the OP a lesson? I'd like to see a video on that, we might all learn something then.

OP rides as well, if not better, than I do and I posted a video specifically asking for CC at the weekend and not one person felt the need to be that rude to me though Dizzle. People offered me some very helpful advice and exercises, all of which I took on board. She's more likely to listen if you're polite. Tis human nature.

Massive well done! Your perseverance is really paying off!

Can I make a small suggestion? Have you tried a neck strap? It's just that when you're working so hard to get her forward, your hands aren't as steady as they could be (and I understand how hard it is) but hooking your thumbs in a longish neck strap might just mean theres no danger of catching her in the mouth and putting her off going forward, and it gives you one less thing to think about. It also means that if she buggers off on landing, you won't be put off balance. You just don't want to give her any excuse not to stop, that's all :)

She's lovely though, masses of talent!

She is absolutely stunning and is lucky to have you! Alot of other people probably would have given up and like other 'problem' horses end up being passed from pillar to post and ending up getting no where.

Well done! You must be so proud and so you should be :)
Looking forward to seeing more in the future x

you made me laugh. Reminded me of our first dressage test a few weeks back... enter at A down centre line. oops saw wonky house of horror mirrors reverse down centre line!

you go girl! well done.

Love your pony :D

Very well done you have done an amazing job... its not all about style at the end of the day, its about achieving the goals you have set yourself!! so many others would have given up.
Beautiful horse!

Stunning mare and what a lovely scopey jump when she does decide to co-operate. I think I would have lost the will to live years ago based on her original antics :)

I truly believe that if your riding was as wobbly, unbalanced and hard handed as one poster seems to think, you would never have achieved an iota of generosity from that mare and would not have the happy partnership that you have now. Your riding in the new vid is improved from the original (though I was in awe of your courage and perseverence in it) and obviously the lessons are helping, but probably also helping is that your mare has found out she can't get away with everything, and she can trust you a bit more.

Keep up the good work - you are an inspiration!

I'm not interested in what any of the armchair critics have to say to you....well there's only really one, Dizzle, who is just being down right rude!
All I want to say is a big, bloody, massive well done. If only there were more people like you showing guts, determination, perseverance & patience in the horse world.
Thank you for sharing those videos you've really made my evening :)

Oh dear - I cried at the end too, silly soppy bint I am :o

I watched the first vid - what a bloody pig headed nappy mare she was!

You have done wonders with her and she is such a quality horse I can see you going far together :)

Inspiring. Thank you, you've made me want to get my jumps out and sort my jumping problems out once and for all! Well done, she looks fab and I KNOW how much work you would have put in to get there :)

Hey SuseP!! I aint getting on that beast for anyone :)

Hooray someone who knows what a terror D is and that my lower leg isnt too wobbly to be jumping!!!? Hopefully!!!! x :)

All I can say to 'my critic' is if you had to wait 4 years for a clear round you wouldnt care if you had gone round backwards, leading your horse, hopping in a sack, blindfold, semi naked, carrying a tray of sherries, smoking a fag, with one leg!! You would still and i believe RIGHTFULLY be chuffed!! Waggly hands, wobbly lower legs and rider error 'n all!!! :)

Now that I DO want to see :)

Seriously, you look to me as if you have wonderful natural balance and in spite of your mares antics in the first video and some over-jumping in the second you don't look like you come anywhere near socking her in the teeth. She's a very big horse for a person your size and you are doing a grand job. And I have to add too that in your first video the majority of riders would either have come off or nearly come off at some point and you never even looked in danger. It's not a dressage test - no points for still legs or hands and if the horse was unhappy she sure didn't look it! (She wasn't :) ) She is lovely, I hope you keep enjoying her.

Wow, well done!! :D

I LOVE the comment at the end about getting past the 3rd fence, remebered you both huh? :D
You're so happy with her and it's lovely, you've clearly worked very hard.

I don't know why people feel the need to be so rude, OP has said they still have a way to go, but I for one think the progress OP and this beautiful horse will continue to make will turn them into even more of a perfect partnership :)

Amazing difference! HUGE well done!! She made some lovely shapes and looked like she was really enjoying herself! Like a completely different pair. Good luck for the future, can't wait to see more from you two :) :)

I wanted to add my best wishes and say what a fantastic job you're doing.
You are very brave posting, and as others have said certain armchair critics probably would have the guts to show warts and all...disrespectful, ignorant and unnecessary.
I think you look great, and as for your very naughty mare, she is stunning - beautiful stamp of a horse.
And glad you're doing Dressage too... I'm in that camp, and she looks like she'll dona nice test :)

'Your determination is a credit to you. I'm not looking where your hands are, or how you have your feet, I can see someone who is giving her soul to her horse in order to achieve a common goal, and that is for you both to become a team, and it's certainly coming!'

Indeed. BRAVO to you....you ride her to suit her, which IMO is better than sticking to all the 'rules'.
Lovely to watch, well done and best of luck to you both.

Not many posts on here reduce me to tears but your determination and love for your horse really hit me. Very well done for persevering from someone who is also 'battling' away to overcome some horsey difficulties (only 2 years though!). You both deserve a very big pat on the back :)

Fantastic - lump in the throat time! We can all criticise everyone else's riding but what matters is that she's obviously much happier, you're obviously much happier and she's doing the job you want her to do! Partnerships can take ages to build, especially with boss mares, and establishing that partnership is so much more important than exactly where your legs are. Besides which, if she was really unhappy with the way you were riding her, she wouldn't be co-operating - she obviously wasn't before!
Well done, carry on building that bond and enjoy!!!

Well done, it's clear the amount of work you have put into her. She is lovely, and definitely worth the effort! Speaking as someone who spent 2 years puttering around Intro (70cm) eventing due to an insanely spooky horse, one day it will click, and you will have a super mount :D

Best of luck in the future

Congratulations what a turn around! She is a beautiful mare and it is clear the amount of work you have put into her. She is a real credit to you, your perseverance and your determination. :)

Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see where your wonderful partnership takes you next! :D

Well done for having the guts to stick with her.
Its always important to do the relavent health checks when they are badly behaved, but this shows that, yes, sometimes it the horse that is just bloody minded.
After watching the first video, she looks like a horse that could've easily ended up sold on from home to home.
The second video she looks like she is really enjoying herself.
Looking forward to hearing more updates on her.
Kx
