A well overdue update on our lovely girls.
Mimosa had a break to deal with ulcers earlier this year, and is back on fabulous form. The main change has been that she’s had her favourite friend back from box-rest and she’s so much more relaxed now that she can see her and not just smell her on my clothes.
I’ve hacked her a bit and various friends have ridden her too. She’s so willing and bright, and she just thrives on doing things.
Miri has brilliant news to share - we have gone on our first ridden walk since her DDFT injury. We’ve done 14 months of rehab to get here, and getting back on board was rather emotional. She was amazing! She hasn’t done anything other than hand-walking and some groundwork and she just pottered out on a long rein for 15 min, and then we watched Mim to some trot work with my friend.
Her antics in the field are still terrifying
But she and Mim are just so happy together
And then an update on beautiful Barbie who went back to her owner sound and happy, and able to hack and work in the school. Her feet are completely transformed, and she is a different horse! The aim had originally been to get her field-sound with an upper-end goal of getting her back to hacking, so seeing her looking well enough to work was the most rewarding thing in the world.
Her wonderful owner feels she has nothing to prove as a ridden horse, and my vet felt her original lameness was entirely down to the shape of her feet and there isn’t anything inherently wrong with her… so she is now in foal and she’s due in May, for a guaranteed dilute high percentage Arab foal by the beautiful part-bred Arab sports horse, Fames Dakota.
She’s the most special mare, with such a great temperament and an amazing presence. I can’t wait to meet future foal!
