Went to see a mare advertised as suitable for nervous and novice 9 years old.
Well I got there and horse was being washed down. She was very wet, cold and shivering having spent the night in the rain and being just having been hosed. She moved her head away when anyone tried to touch her but she did stand still.
The rider jumped on, took her to the school and off she went. Head in the air looking very strong and not at all what I was after. Then she spooked at an umbrella. Was told the most she would do was stare but she jumped to the side which isn't bad but not what I was expecting.
I didn't even get on her. I wasn't happy to at all. She looked far too strong for me and I didn't feel confident so that was that!
She was very pretty and I'm sure she would suit a novice and they'd be very happy with her but she looked too much for me to manage. I'm only a small thing with no weight behind me and it just wasn't a right match.
However!
They then pulled out another horse they said might be suitable!
He's a gelding, 4 years. I wasn't too sure about this at first, thought him too young for a novice.
Saw him ridden and then jumped on. Took him on the road with someone walking with us and then walked him on my own. He was perfect. Cars speeding at us and he was fine just kept walking.
He looked at things. Had a stare at some cows and then walked on. I love him to bits! He's the one!
Got to get vetting sorted now!
So happy. Even my mum who is iffy around horses feels attached to him already. He's meant to be ours I'm sure!
