Celine had her first fully barefoot trim yesterday after having shoes off for about 5 weeks. I decided to get a new farrier now that she is barefoot and I am so happy I made that decision. The farrier was brilliant and really knew his barefoot stuff aswell as shoeing (something I didn't find with my old farrier). My old farrier would rarely say a word even when I asked questions about Celines hooves and he would give vague answers - this new guy is brilliant, I couldn't be happier with his knowledge, expertise and real interest in telling me exactly what's going on with her hooves and what he was doing. He only gave her a very very light trim as he emphasised that its going to be very subtle frequent adjustments that are going make the biggest difference to her and its going to take a while to slowly rectify the low heel, long toe structure of her hoof at the moment and so we are looking at about 6 months before we really begin to see significant progress. He was also really happy with her hinds that have been bare since October so I was pleased with that.

Pictures of her fresh trim will shortly follow, they are far far far from perfect but I'm feeling a lot more secure about everything now and I can already see subtle improvements.

Ps if anyone is looking for a farrier/barefoot farrier in the south east, pm and I would be happy to recommend :)

Thank you, photos will be up soon I hope.

Ah right, sorry. Although I'd seriously recommend him to anyone else - he's amazing! He was my farrier once and I was gutted when I moved out of his 'area' - even offered to pay him diesel to come out! He was the farrier I had when I got my feral Welsh C and he was so calm and good with her.

Sorry to hi-jack Immy :o

No problem! Always good to recommend people! :)

Pictures - opinions would be very helpful!

Not sure of the order and didn't manage to get any sole views of the fronts yet.

She is already on a barefoot diet and he was happy with what she was on.
The feet are like that due to a combination of her being shod since a 2 year old - her feet have never had a break. And as they seemed to deriorate further with the last farrier he explained that the last farrier had constantly been taking away too much foot leaving no support, causing them to collapse and the toe to run out. He explained it in much more technical terms but that's what I kind of gathered from what he said!

Good luck :)

Looks like the angles of her fronts will change massively looking at the top cm or so :)

Thank you. Yes I was quite shocked when I saw the new angle growing through! Their shapes are going to change a lot over the months I think.
