Thanks to all who replied on this a few weeks back. The good news is my horse is fully recovered ! She is now eating, drinking & pooing normally and is completely her old self. I am unbelievably relieved & happy !! However, one of her melanomas burst and is still oozing black smelly oily melanin which the vet says may continue (forever0 as the melanoma is active. This I can cope with just fine as long as she is well. I know I won't have her for years longer (the vet says the melanomas will be her downfall in the end as they are in her rectum) so I just enjoy her the best I can and keep her well and content !
Thanks again - great forum !

Very pleased for you, I hope she will stay well for a very long time indeed. I have a 19 year old grey mare with very large melanomas in her neck and under her tail (which are weeping a little) and she is still very well indeed, touch wood. (PS she is the horse in my avatar, pictured hunting last season.)
