Just a update, for those of you who have older diesel Pajeros, shoguns etc that you won't be able to use in the up and coming low emissions zone round London when it kicks in next January. My Sister's OH who runs a stables at Kenley just inside the zone wasn't going to be able to use his Pajero when the zone becomes live, so he applied to the DVLA to have his log book changed to read ESTATE instead of 4x4 light utility, he has just heard from them that they are going to change it allowing him to use the zone.
I had a 2.7 7 seater Maverick that at first did comply when I checked in on the TFL site, then mysteriously a week later I checked it again to make sure and it suddenly didn't comply, same as my Mum's camper which has a newer engine than some older vehicles that do comply, all very confusing!
I possibly could have got the Maverick changed to Estate too but I sold it so not my problem anymore but I urge all of you who have older 4x4's that won't be allowed into the zone, get your log book changed asap,it's a £200 fine I believe if you stray into the zone and £100 per day to use it unless exempt from the charge, Oz

I am a little confused by your post. I drive a 4 x 4 & live in South London. Using the TFL vehicle check facility, my car is exempt. Reading the actual TFL rules it does not appear to be aimed at "family" or "recreational" 4 x 4s. Maybe some are caught in it.
I would suggest that anyone concerned about this first check your vehicle using the TFL web site facility before you start thinking about changing log books, etc.

I have a Monterey (re-badged Isuzu Trooper) and it is also exempt.
Slightly concerning is the Tfl sure saying the vehicle reg checker may not be accurate!
However I pulled out my log book and mine is already registered as an estate.

A quick Google search brought up some examples of successful applications to change the classification. Seems it can take a while so if anyone needs to do it, maybe best to get the ball rolling soon.

It seems the confusion is with the Tfl as some 4x4's pass and some don't, it's a lottery!
I suggest everyone keep checking their 4x4's online as even though it comes up as a "pass" in 2 weeks time it might not.

You're welcome Mrs Mozart,
just trying to warn people, make sure you keep going back to check on your vehicle every couple of weeks or so before January next year. They seem to change their minds like they change their underwear!
My friend who has a Mahindra Jeep (like a WW2 Willey's Jeep) found they had registered it in the same class as a HGV!
When he took it to the Vosa centre to get them to test it, they fell about laughing at the idiots at the DVLA who had classed it as such.
His Jeep doesn't comply with the low emissions either and his road is just inside i by 100 yards, so he's stuffed!
