I took Alee to the remedial farrier yesterday to have her high heels fitted

I hired a horse lorry as our new one still isn't ready

and she loaded perfectly

It was a long old day....... an hour to get to where the lorry was then an hour back to the yard, an hour and a half to the farrier then an hour to the vets then an hour home then back an hour to drop the lorry back and another hour back home....I was shattered!!!
Anyway got to the farrier and he was so lovely, he really instilled confidence and seemed quite optimistic for Alee and gave some good examples of other horses which was good.
Alee now has natural balance shoes with gel pads and wedge heels. She does look strange but straight away seemed to be walking better.
We went back to the vets ( I would say on the way home....but it wasn't

) for her feet to be xrayed to make sure that the shoes were in the correct place.
The farrier had placed them correctly to within 1mm....amazing

Alee was trotted up and the vet was amazed at how much better she moved....so was I, I couldn't wipe the grin off my face

We are not in the clear yet though, time will tell if she remains sound. I have the physio out to her in 2 weeks but in the meantime I am to start taking her out for short hacks in walk and see how she goes. My farrier needs now to learn how to do these shoes so I don't have the long trip again in 6 weeks time.
I'll try and get some piccies tonight of Alee's high heels.
I can't wait to get back on board!!!

I was wondering all day yesterday, how you would be getting on

I presume it was still Dave Nicholls you saw ..... he has a very calming and quiet way and is one of the best

Good Luck and hope to see you and SH soon

He is such a lovely man.
I decided to sedate Alee with some sedalin before we left due to it only being her 2nd ever time being shod. I didn't want to get all that way and find she wouldn't co-operate!!!
When he was done he stood chatting to her calling her lovely things and telling her she was going to be fine and to be good on the way home and that we were stopping off to take some photos of her feet at the vets. It was so sweet. Although i'm sure if he knew I thought he was sweet he would have something to say!!!.
I really am amazed in the difference in Alee alreday and fingers crossed it will only get better. I'm going to take her for a little hack on Monday so will update you all then - providing she's not feeling too good now that is!!!!!
SH is on her hols for a couple of weeks from Thursday can you meet up before then? If not maybe once she is back we can arrange to meet up.
