I shouldn't have said I'm anti horse people, because I am one myself! The people who neglect their horses aren't really horsey at all. I phoned the rspca who visited a few days ago and agreed the horses were very underweight and have said this situation will be ongoing. They've advised me to get the people to find alternative livery, but this is nigh on impossible. I gave them notice last Sunday, but I doubt they will go. Also discovered rspca have had dealings with them before. If I wasn't an animal lover and was harder, I would simply take the horses away and tether them on the verge, thus leaving it to a rescue organisation. Sadly, this situation has had repurcussions: firstly, I've been accused of having the rspca on to me, when in fact it was me that's called them - just this morning, (Happy bloody new year) I've had a woman on my doorstep accusing me of just that. She had to be escorted off the property, and tomorrow, I'm going to phone her riding club and report her behaviour. Secondly, I've very sadly decided my days of helping people out are over. (Of course, if I see an injured animal or person, I would go to their aid.) For example, I am currently looking after an elderly TBx for the winter, whose owner could not afford to feed him. He was very underweight but has now bloomed and is a handful to ride, and will go back in March fat and frisky and with a sharer who can help with feed. But I will not be doing any of this again - I've been let down, used and abused too many times.

Oh dear ... Didn't want to read and run ... I'm sorry you're feeling this way as you are clearly a caring, helpful and responsible person and it's tragic that good folk like you get taken advantage of by others who just don't care. Sadly, such people will always be there. It's just a shame that your good nature has been abused like this and it's always the animals stuck in the middle that suffer. I hope the situation works itself out. <<< hugs >>>

Thankyou all for your sympathy. I don't want to sound like I'm a 'poor little me', but feel that 2014 started off badly for me, firstly with the woman on my doorstep, then ending with me being taken to hospital in an ambulance! I've had a few 'racing heart' probs over the last couple of months and am currently on a waiting list to see cardiologist - the stress of the last week hasn't helped. I'm ok now and New Year is picking up. Horse owner is currently feeding them, but we're still keeping an eye.

The owner has now bought hay and is feeding them. We'll still be watching out though and his notice is still withstanding. With the best will in the world, I simply cannot afford to feed them myself: I've had a few ongoing health problems, plus I no longer work - with that, and my age, I'm virtually unemployable anyway. Added to which, I'm looking after another horse until March and he's costing me a fortune to feed. But the neglected horses won't be suffering any more - there are too many people watching now!
