Decided to get vet out as I wasn't really happy with his knee. It was still massive and the swelling hadn't gone down at all. There was also some fluid that had been leaking out of the cut.
Vet luckily was in the area, so came within 1/2 hr of me ringing.
He had a good look and made me trot him up, said he was surprised at how sound he was considering. He thought the cut had become infected and decided to drain it and flush it out.
Sedated him and sqeezed out a lot of fluid, then he opened up the wound with forceps and flushed it out with saline solution.
Put a dressing on and a wonderful thing called a pressage, which zipped up like a pair of half chaps but with a hole in the back to allow movement of the knee.
Poor Axey is now on box rest until monday when I can take the dressing off and hopefully the swelling/odema will be gone.
Unfortunately Axey got kicked right in the worst place, but he doesn't think there is any bone damage as he wouldn't be that sound. If it's not any better on monday he will go up and have an x ray, so keep your fingers crossed.
I have 5 days of antibiotics to give him, so I'm hoping he will eat them!

Poor pony, I can't believe that's the 2nd time in a few weeks I've had the vet out. I've owned Axey for 5 years and he's never seen a vet up till now.

make sure they dont leave the dressings etc on too many days - my girly was kicked in the knee and ended up with one scar from the kick and another from the pressure sore (even tho I removed it a day earlier than the vet wanted) :-(((

Not to worry you but my horse was kicked and there was no visible damage apart from a cut, and he was sound.I was riding him and turned out as normal until I tried to jump him one day and he wouldnt jump, vet took him for xrays and he had a bone chip, so make sure you g4et x rays on monday if hes still not right just for your piece of mind

Will do, thanks. I'm so pleased I got them out and just didn't turn him out in the field.
Axey is on box rest until monday so hopefully if he has done anything else I have minimised any more damage.

I have every faith in my vet. I've only just changed to them and so far they've been fab. Halfpass uses them and recommended them to me.

Did your horse recover ok?
