Those who don't know Badger did his check ligament last Saturday and the vet came the scan it today.

He thought it was looking really good and we trotted him up and he was sound so go the all clear there. :)

Time for the scan... TBH I found it quite difficult to know what he was talking about because the check ligament isn't obvious like the SDFT etc. but anyway after realising what he thought was a large/bad hole in it was actually a blood vessel (!!) he could see some thickening/damage. Left me feeling a little unconvinced but I guess they know what they are talking about.

So anyway he doesn't think it's too bad, box rest and slowly building up to jumping/fast work in about 4 months all being well.

So could have been worse really but gonna be a boring old winter for me and Badger!!

Thanks guys.

It was a guy called Sam from Pool House. I'm not 100% on box rest TBH but I think for the full duration so about 4 months? I'm not keen on leaving him in for that long though...

I am in the same position, damaged tendon in August.......I tried both box rest and field and tbh he seems to have recovered quicker being out in a smallish paddock.

Now sound but the plan was always to leave until after xmas before gradual work again, as the initial scan really did not identify clearly the true problem it has been a journey of trial and error.

Good luck for Badger........

He says not but TBH I'm trying to pull together the best plan of action for me and my horse which may not be exactly what vet said. I realise this may be controversial!

Problem with him being turned out is that it's not controlled AND on wet ground and he'd only have to gallop up and down a few times/spin round/do a big buck and he could re-do or further damage his injury. But in 6 years no ones ever seen Badger do anything more than a little trot at the most! But then you can bet that something would set him off the one time he's meant to behave himself!

Hard to know what to do for the best!

Hi hun, didn't realise it was you! Is that Axel that's hurt himself?

From my experience of dealing with check lig injuries i wouldnt think you will have 4mths box rest - "most" of ours have had 4 weeks boxrest then followed up with paddock rest. Every case is individual though an in most cases controlled exercise is far better than turn out - but a small paddock tends to be the compromise.

Off Front - scan showed a slight inflamation so I was advised it was a tendon strain, slight pulse below the knee.

Last two weekends he has trotted up sound but we are definitly not rushing it........I will pop on his back @ Xmas.

Have you had any recently? He seemed to be saying that it's standard practice now for any tendon injuries and just said that it needs re visiting in 2-4 weeks. this was after I said he was insured!

Well hope he's feeling better soon!! :) Hope you don't use this as an excuse why you can't do XC ever again! ;)
