Update on Biggest Fox thread - video

mmm.......have to say though, Murphy wouldn't have stood as long as the rottie did and would have probably killed it, he hates them with a passion! I wondered if it had been hand reared because it didn't seem to have any fear at all, unless it was really hungry!

I've just had a look on you tube and there are quite a few clips of urban foxes that don't move very far when approached by people so wonder if this was an urban fox that had been relocated into a rural area by some helpful local authority or welfare organisation. The ones at our stables run at the slightest sign of people and you can't get anywhere near them, they may stop and look from a distance but if you moved towards them they would panic and run.

I've seen literally hundreds of foxes over the years and this one doesn't seem overly big, brave or hungry etc., it's just being a fox.

It does give the anti's something to think about when they go on about hounds terrifying a fox eh? Twenty feet from a Rottweiler - you could say the Charley may have seen this particular dog before and has confidence he can outpace him but I don't reckon they think like that - he just sees a chicken and thinks, chase and kill - the threat posed by the dog and man is quite separate.

For that matter I've seen the Craven in full cry in one field while their quarry sat quietly in another right out in the open without moving.

I've dealt with a fair few foxes and never seen one behave like this, this fox is clearly used to humans and dogs, certainly does not behave like a country fox at all, he appears incredibly healthy so my personal thoughts are that this fox has been reared by human and then released, as soon as he's become hungry he's sourced out the closest human scent.

I'm dead against this sort of thing, it causes far too many problems for all. Regarding size he's a typical well fed dog fox.
