So I will start

quick recap (or for new members)

Jan 2009 I fractured my ankle badly in a silly fall. It wasn't put back together as well as it could so

Nov 09 was told it was collapsing

Aug 10 had replacement ankle surgery

April 11 xray showed replacement had moved so had to be revised

I've now been in a cast again for 4 wks so far. another 2 to go. Then I switch to air cast and physio

I'm going out of my mind with boredom

anyone else

I think you need a well placed bullet !

What a pain for you, its horrible when something never quite gets there!

My husband broke his elbow in an iceskating incident (I was chasing him with ice to shove down his trousers)... it mended well, but will never be the same again.

I hope you get some better luck with the leg and look after yourself well and try to prevent any arthritic change in later life
XXXXXXX

I fell on the ice before xmas, fractured both radial heads, bruised pelvis and whiplash. Returned to work at the beginning of May but having an MRI on Weds for my elbow and booked for surgery on 7th July for a wrist arthroscopy which will poss end up with ligament reconstruction of the wrist and elbow. Not ridden since mid November :-( My friend is riding my 2 horses once a week. Soooo annoying as the younger one I had just started competing in show jumping (1st time in 5yrs of owning him due to kissing spine issues then surgery). Think someone has it in for me and him

Yep I do! not sure there is much hope for avoiding the arthritic changes as I also have RA mind you it is the only reason I got the replacement and not had to have a fusion.

elbows are a real pain and like ankles never the same.

Ouch poor you, god at least I have been able to ride in between all this, it has been extremely painful to do so but hey. hope all goes well for your op x

Must be really frustrating after all this time, especially with it being an ankle , at least with an arm you can still get around at speed, must really get you down some days!

There a guy I know who broke his leg in a RTA and his just won't heal hes been like this for a yr now, cast on, cast off, screws etc, hes now had a bone graft (hes obese don't think tis helping much) hes now mending slowly, but if it doesnt his leg has to come off!..... terrible!

Wish you better xx

Thanks yes it is frustrating and difficult with my RA to get around, using the crutches hurts my hands and shoulders, having to put weight all on other leg is causing problems there too. even wheeling a chair hurts hands and shoulders, so have to rely on my sister to take me out once a week.

Which when your used to being outdoors all day everyday its driving me crackers lol where did you put that bullet

Poor guy no I don't suppose the weight is going to help him at all.

OMG you poor souls you have made my moans seem very insignificant, I now feel lucky!! Had 2 nasty horse riding falls in last 6 months 2x 6 weeks out of action and 5 days in hospital so can appreciate the excruciating boredom thing but heh my injuries don't require any further treatment just time and then regaining confidence. I wish you all well and you have my sympathy. Hope you all get as near 100% recovered asap and back riding again soon xx

Knowing your luck if I tried to shoot you, I would probably miss the vital organ and leave you in a worst state! lol xx

Know how you feel. slipped my disc 9 months ago. 6 weeks off for it to get better, but it never did get 100%. Then 7 weeks ago my lower back locked up and i have had pain down my leg for 9 months and its just got worse. Due MRI in next 4 weeks then i hope to go for a op to sort it once and for all... I am so itching to get back in saddle. Got a friend riding mine most days till i better. Fingers crossed we all get better soon. (((((((((good vibes)))))) for all to get ur butts back in saddles...lol

Oh dear, what a bunch we are!!

Oct 2010 ran marathon.....destroyed knee
Nov 2011 surgery on knee

March 2011 Bought Denzel, instructor said he will get used to one leg being weaker

May 2011 slipped disc.....bugger!!

Ho hum, hopefully we'll be on the mend soon!!

I'm really bored too :( I have had a broken/recovering back since 7th April. My mares lame (see veterinary) and my gelding is abit special so the timing is pretty good ;) I have been a nasty mum and have been lungeing the gelding to suppress the feeling of wanting to ride lol.

Onwards and upwards eh ;)

Me, I'm recovering from shoulder surgery after shattering my collar bone in 4. Had 7 pins and a plate followed by some minor complications. 7 wks later still in a sling and bored out my mind! Thankfully can now wash myself after a month of my mother doing it for me!

Hugs to all broken bods

anyone else

I was double barreled in the face two days before Christmas 2008.

Face and teeth are still sore and achey (especially with the rain coming this week) but most of all I am still in agony in my neck. Can't even sit at my desk without being in crippling pain, which is making current revision very hard work :(

Pilon fracture to distal tibia (ankle!) August 2010 from a silly fall over a tiny jump!! Tried landing on my feet. Big mistake! Thank you Soulfull for all the ankle tips over the past months!

Started back riding building up time in the saddle from Dec 2010.

Was coming on in leaps and bounds till achillies started playing up, shin splint pain where plate is and my back went from compensating for my bad leg!!

Gone back under physio and having ultrasound scan on achillies to see what is going on. So not sure how next stage of healing going to pan out now :(

Lots of healing vibes coming all to you broken peeps :D

Another shoulder injury! After years of suffering following a bad fall I bit the bullet and had an op to stop my shoulder constantly dislocating. They tidied up the joint and did a ligament and cartilege repair. Recovery time should have been six weeks in a sling, six weeks physio to regain movement and three months physio to regain strength. In theory I was meant to be back riding early August.
That was January this year and I'm still stuck trying to regain movement. The op was successful, my shoulder no longer dislocates, but I only have about 60% mobility. It's now enough to get by in daily life so I'm lucky. Sadly I saw my surgeon last week and he said no riding until 2012!!!! There is also the possibility I'll need a further op in two months...
But, reading about those of you who have far worse injuries stops me feeling too sorry for myself. At least I can still get out and about to see the horses.

Begining of the month: Celulitus after impaling my foot on a rusty nail.
Today: Dropped a post rammer on my head and had to be glued back together again....

Ouch!! Hopefully this will be the end of it though and you can finally get a bit of your life back. I'm currently not too broken and nor is the horse - a very rare thing (still have dodgey knees/back after various injurys but thats what painkillers/anti-inflamatories etc are for ;)! )

Little Stig has been telling us all about it on Facebook! I do hope you're ok and be careful as you are terribly accident prone at the moment!! :p

I got a double pilon fracture left and right ankles in May 2008 so I feel your pain :)

I did a high speed dismount and landed flat feet first when my horse stumbled during a downhill canter! My specialist kept calling me Frankie Dettori when I went for my checkups. Funny guy

I found that doing lots of stretching exercises suggested by my physio using one of those big elastic band things really helped. I spend a lot of time bedbound then wheelchair bound so it was something to do whilst watching telly! Also, if you can get to use a Powerplate (one of those vibrating jobbies), that was amazing in helping me stretch my supertight Achilles tendons. I got my plates removed a year later (April 2009), once that had healed I found that my ankle movement improved greatly.

I was riding again within 9 months (not that I told my specialist that!), so good luck to you and everyone else healing xx

Pinkatc I don't envy you having 2 of these pilon fractures!! How did you cope?! I can just about cope with the one.

I seem to have good weeks then bad weeks. I think I try to do too much. I'm at 9 months post op and have nearly recovered my ROM in the ankle but the tendons and ligaments are the hardest. I have been under physio since started under NHS and private but been told to layoff the exercises to whatever is happening in my achillies settles.

What is this vibrating plate?! How does it work? I have used the wobble boards but now at full stretch they don't do much for me now.

Just waiting for the ultrasound scan on my achillies to see what next. I also am thinking of asking for the plate taking out to reduce this pain but they said it would stay in due to where its placed as near major artery and all my tendons as my plate is down the front of my shin (tibia) rather than the side.

Where were your plates and pins? Was it the NHS you were under and they removed them no problems?

Sorry for the millions of questions!! :D

Cracked arm a couple of years ago - Dizz slipped on the road and we both hit the deck.

A bleed on the brain eighteen months ago - at speed, she went left, I didn't.

A broken back at L2 (compression fracture) nine months ago - don't ride when ill. Jumping a grid. Lost the plot at the second one and came off over the third. Landed on both feet.

Oh Mrs M I hadn't realised you had so many nasties, I was worrying fate was telling me something after 2 on the trot, now I am even more determined to get back in the saddle - thank you - you have inspired me even more. And lets hope now more!!

Oh dear. I'm another one who thinks it may just be kinder to shoot you.

I broke my shoulder and rode after ten days, I was so bored. And then I broke my arm and managed to stay off a horse for two weeks. I really feel for you!

Anything any of us who live close enough can do to help??

ps my goodness what the rest of you have been through! Puts my tiny problems in the shade that's for sure. I hope you are all well again soon.

Had a few injuries broken bones/snapped ligaments etc (knee, back, shoulder, hand/wrist, tore ribs apart from the cartilage) and many months off over the last couple years.

Currently, 4 weeks ago injured my elbow in a martial arts class practicing some movements (ex-boyfriend being a silly bugger and using way too much force and incorrect technique).

Finally saw surgeon Wednesday, MRI Friday to be told I must have surgery on Tuesday to reconstruct three snapped ligaments, remove part of the cubital tunnel, decompress the ulnar nerve and hopefully have it repaired before the damage in my hand becomes permanent. Faaaantastic, just as competition season gets properly busy here, AND just before I start my exams (first one being a week tomorrow)!

Reading this thread puts my lumps, bumps and bruises in perspective

I came off 5 and a half weeks ago during a jumping lesson after the horse I was riding seriously over jumped a 2 ft pole  I ended up on his neck and couldn't get back into saddle and slid round his neck and fell between his legs. He tripped and landed on me. Finished up with bruising to left elbow, bruising going from very top of inner thigh to below knee on back of left leg, bruising to left hand resulting in one of my rings being cut off and a heamatoma (sp?) on back of left thigh.Sore and bruised ribs. But most importantly NOTHING broken.

Have been back on board a couple of times and done about 10 minutes. Heamatoma in awkward place on back of thigh as it presses against saddle but has gone down enough now that I can do rising trot without any discomfort :) Not tried canter yet :p

Last April I got bucked off and fractured left ankle (anyone noticing a theme here :p ) and was off for 4 weeks. Can say the air cast boot is fantastic :D

Daughter has banned me from riding for March, April and May next year ;) :p

Lol hun. It's ironic, but I've only come off twice in more years than I can remember (back into horses for five years now, but rode for many years before that time break). I just do it in style!:rolleyes::o:D

PS I don't count the slip as there was nothing anyone could have done. One minute there was a big ginger neck and ears in front of me, a split second later they were gone! I had to time to think "Oh no! My beautiful girl!" before we both hit the ground. She held her body off my leg/foot, so saving me from a nasty break :D She was fine and we continued our hack, once a kind lady had lent us her mounting block as I couldn't use my left arm to get back on :o. Steering was a bit funny lol. At the end of the hack, which was to a new yard, I could not figure out how to get off; D had to lift/haul me off (Dizz was 16.2-ish at the time :o ).
