So yesterday i went down to the yard to be greeted by him whinnying and then (as usual) mugging me for treats. I spent yonks grooming him and he seemed to really enjoy it cos normally its just a quicky but he kinda dozed off in the sun! Then lunged over some jumps and he was an angel as for usual! It was quite nice not to ride but to just see how stunning he is from the ground. I love him to PIECES!

Anyway here is a video i made. If you have a youtube account PLEASE SUB. Enjoy and comment on what you think of him :)

He looks nice, but please please do not clip the lead rope onto his bit. I have seem some horrific accidents because of this. Its so much easier just to wack the headcollar back on over the bridle.

Sorry for rant its just so dangerous.

No watched the vid but if it's on about being tied up with the lead rope clipped to the bit, then if they pull back/fall/whatever on it, in a best case scenario you'll have a broken bridle...or in most cases a very messed up horses mouth where they've pulled their teeth out or broken their jaw with it.

right. but as i just said it was not a normal circumstance! Point made i put this up so people could see him cos i am proud of him not for you all to have a go at me! i won't do it again!

The horse pulled back got frightened by the fact it hurt his mouth, majorly pulled and cut his mouth with the bit. He now has to be ridden bitless as refuses to accept the bit which is fair enough as the cuts he had needed stiches.

The second time I saw this happen not so bad, horse pulled back and and broke the bridle, no damage done to horse but cost the owner her newish £100 bridle.

I didn't see this one myself but a friend saw a horse manage to get the clip actually in the mouth and it punctured a hole in his mouth.

Always have a headcollar on hand just in case the situation arises as it isn't worth clipping lead rein onto the bit ring.

ETA: I'm not having a go, I think he looks lovely I just think it is worth pointing out.

No one's having a go at you, I certainly wasn't. I just answered your question from the post above about how was it dangerous. Glad you're having a blast with him.

Well sorry if i over-reacted but i am responsible and brom wasn't going anywhere! I know he could have been spooked etc etc but he wasnt and the person gave me back his headcollar so its all cool. Thanks for picking me up on it but please don't be so doom like ;)

He looks lovely, and you look like you have a good relationship with him.

With regards to the lead rope and bit, its got me worried!! When I tie up I use a head collar and lead rope, but if I take him out for a walk I put his bridle on, take off the reins and attach a lead rope through both holes of the bit (passing behind the chin) is this OK then??

nice post.

Not having a go could just be the way the video is edited but as with all lunging you should make it even on both reins.

Nah i did it on both reins but the way i made it was to choose the nicer clips and he is better on that rein! wasn't gonna bore viewers with me asking him to go again and to steady and stuff :)

Glad you all like him :)
