As promised, an update on the NAF liquid calmer I bought for Viento (cannot remember the name, it begins with E).

Sadly, for us, it didn't work.

Mad absolutely no difference what so ever. £18.00 totally down the drain.

Might work for others though.

Sorry it didn't work for you. When did you start giving it to him? Some calmers can take weeks / months to work?
Keep trying other types / makes i'm sure you will find one that works. Have you tried the top spec one? Its supposed to be really good.

This one was supposed to be suitable to use an hour to an hour and a half before competition.

Or, you could start using it before hand, which is what I did and a dose on the morning.

In tried the Top Spec Calmer and didnt think that helped. Some people have suggested NAF magic (think thats right). Off to the saddlery tomorrow to see what they have!

A friend of mine tried magic on her moody mare and it made no difference, I used to get one from a company called horse health it was a magnesium and cromium based calmer and worked really well on my old horse. It was called cromagnum I think

Ha! Yes it was! Just checking that you were paying attention!!!!!

Not quite sure why I put E but I knew what I meant! LOL.

Just hope I can find something. My trainer describes him as a "bubbler" but today he was "boiling"!

lol cause I bought it for my grey mare that I sold and if I gave Georgie it he'd probably lie down in his stable refuse to get up for the next week

yeah the B-calm paste REALLY works-believe me i used it when i went hunting, he was a completely different horse!Wasnt dopey at all, he just wasnt a complete idiot, and didnt sweat up after 5 mins!!

well i ordered it of that horse health wessex link that halfpass posted, so not really!Mind you turned out quite expensive for the one tube due to postage..

Hi, I used Temperelax on my horse before a show and it worked. The reason I used it was because Rox was a bu**er for travelling in the lorry. This made the difference and she was much calmer but wasn`t as quick off the leg!
To calm her temperament a little on a long term basis, I used the Equivite Calm and this worked for her. She had it for about 18-20 months then I stopped it and she was great, still is. I did try the herbal calmer, can`t remember the name now, but it was in an oval tub with lots of little flowery bits, but this didn`t help at all. Different things work for different horses though, so try another. My friend at the yard has just started her horse on the Magic, been on it for about 3 weeks now, but its now on stable rest so can`t tell if its working yet...

For my stressy TB who can be very tense in the dressage I use Nupafeed, works brilliantly on him, he gets the 25ml maintenance dose daily and the evening before a competition and extra 50mls followed by another 50mls the morning of the competion. chills him out, keeps the lid on and he is able to concentrate, also stops him from standing in his box/lorry shitting like a cow! They do it in 1ltr and 5ltr. Looks expensive at £89 for 5ltr but works out (after the loading period) at about £13.50 per months which is actually cheaper than some other calmers.
