I posted a how much a couple of weeks ago for my mum's horse, Chloe, so just thought I'd post an update to it.
My mum is really struggling to walk, never mind ride, although she's managed a couple more painful hacks at the weekend, but needs help mounting and dismounting. She has definitely decided to find a new home for Chloe, as she's too good (and expensive) to keep as a pet.
My RI suggested a riding school that might like her, so my mum went to look at it yesterday. There are 55 horses, the stables and yard were spotless, and the owners were lovely. Chloe would get ridden for 1-2 hrs a day. She'd get daily turnout with one other horse, and adlib haylage and lots of carrots. They do BHS training so she won't only be used for beginners.
We think this will be a better home for her than a private sale as they will keep her for life, and they also have a retirement farm she can go to once her working time is over.
There's no free stables at the moment, but once there is they'll come and try her out, which means I've got to start schooling her again, so she's well behaved!
They'll then either buy her for a token amount, or she'll go on permanent loan there. Either way I can still go and ride her, and my RI will keep us updated on her new career
My mum will help me with Megan, so I can have a day off during the week if I want, and will take care of her whilst I'm on holiday.
As Megan isn't as wide as Chloe, she should be able to hack her out once her hip operation is over with, so she won't be missing out on her horse fix once Chloe has gone
We've just got to hope now that they still like Chloe once they meet her in the flesh, and that my mum hasn't put them off with her list of negatives
