Just thought i would share what's been happening lately.Domino and phoenix were moved yesterday from the field to a livery yard after being told to leave the field after someone had called the police out because they thought phoenix had been attacked because he had blood down his legs from being gelded, and she has been messing us around for a while-saying we can have a stable, then we cant etc so have had to wait to de-lice them.I have regretted getting the field since the first day anyway because everybody was going in,feeding them, setting fires in the field, cutting the fence so basically she made it easier because deciding to move them and put them through that is never easy for me.I have had domino 1 and a half years and he has moved so many times but it is because he wouldnt get turnout when i got told he would,1 livery yard he started to turn his bum and try to kick us when i would go into the stable and later got told the people there would hit him when he was bargy with his food,1 he ended up being scared when i tried to put on his headcollar, most he ended up scared. So they were moved yesterday and i de-liced them, domino was alot better with it than i thought he would have been.phoenix has been gelded, had his feet trimmed, they have both had first vaccination and to get the 2nd next week i think and the farrier has been out to attempt dominos feet twice-1st time he bolted away,2nd he barged through the paddock and broke it so after moving them yesterday i arranged for him to come out today but he didnt get back to me,no one else could come out today so will need to get someone on monday.I was up today and led them to the field and they were so good-domino just follws phoenix everywhere even loaded straight away because i put phoenix in first.Anyway sorry for the long story, here are pics of them at the new livery.

in the field they have just moved from.

Hi Marie, it's looks like they are the best of buddies now. Hope your new livery is a positive experience for you all. Naughty Domino not helping the farrier out. No advice but I'm sure someone will ave some helpful suggestions for you. :)

hi,yeah they really are.Domino was quite hard to catch for a few days there because i had put cream on his sunburnt nose,so to put in a paddock i had to lead phoenix and he would just follow. The very 1st day i got phoenix i put him in the field with domino and loads of other horses and the next day i went to see them they were both together and following each other around and both came up to me,so have liked one and other from the first day:D Now that i have a stable he should be ok for the farrier, hopefully get someone out on monday.

Really pleased things improving for these two and you Marie. Phoenix's blue eye is adorable. Maybe try picking up his feet when you go and see him so he starts getting used to it? Good luck!

thanks,i know i love his blue eye.He is great at picking up his feet, takes his weight of the hoof you want before you even touch it,i think it is because he is wary of men because he let the trainer (who is female) walk up to him in the field and pick his feet up straight away with no fuss.

That field sounded awful. Difficult being near a main road too I guess!

Glad that things are working out now :)

Love the one with the blue eye - sorry, I'm not sure which is which! I have a couple of suggestions which might help with Domino and the farrier issue, as my youngster (17hh of pure flail when I got her) used to try to flatten the poor chap who did mine but would let me pick out and even roll her toes with a rasp without blinking. 1) Look for a female farrier/trimmer - mine, like yours, was scared of men and had had at least one and I suspect several unpleasant experiences with men and rasps. 2) Get every chap on the yard to come over and fuss him. If they're horsey, see if they can run a hand down his legs/pick up his feet. 3) Try different farriers, mine was also scared of vets but would let one of the four male vets in the practice do almost anything to her - and only that one. 4) Find a very patient farrier! My current one used to come out, do my other horse, fuss Bug and go away. We then progressed to him picking up her feet and putting them down almost immediately. Then to holding them up, then finally to rasping them. We even broke all the rules in the book so that if he picked her foot up and she tried to take it away, he simply let go, let her put it down and then picked it up again. It removed any semblance of a fight from the process. She now stands like a seaside donkey for him, no problems at all. Shoving his nose in a bucket of feed might help too ;-) Good luck!

aww, they really do love each other,it is soo cute :D yeah it really was awful so is the lady i rented it from, her livery yard-dean castle riding school-was the 1st place i had domino when i got him and she was exactly the same which is why i left so i should have known not to take it in the first place. She was nice at times and checked domino over when he was brought to me.

i was at the stables today and my brother in law came up with me and decided he would try to help with dominos leading, even though he is TERRIFIED from horses lol (even though it didnt show).I was going up to domino and he moved away from me (must still be becuse the cream i had put on his burnt nose haha) then my brother in law walked towards him and he didnt move (although he is usually scared of men) so he petted him and i went up,put his headcollar and leadrope on him and started to lead him, after a few seconds he tried to pull away,my brother in law held onto the rope for me and i took him back when he stopped pulling,he was actually really good after that, when i asked him to turn/stop/back up/walk really slow and trot-he did.and he usually bolts especially in trot so he has said he will come up and help me with him a few days every week,so HOPEFULLY finally see some improvements... aww and phoenix knows how to smile :D

They do look to be good friends. Glad you have found somewhere with a stable, I have found with my two youngsters getting them in each day on a regular basis, brushing them, picking up their feet, fly spray has really helped with their handling. The now mob anyone who goes near the field they have really grown in confidence.
Like you mine do not like having the sunscreen on their noses, yet are so good when ai use fly spray.
