Well I posted yesterday asking for tips on how to deal with a youngster who has no concept of my personal space and who get's quie bargy she also refuses to trot inhand unless I want her to walk that is! Lol.
Today i asked my instructor who has loads of experience backing and training youngsters to come up to the school and watch & lend a hand. But shock, horror ... Emma was a saint! No bargyness today but she did refuse to trot.
Well my instructor said Emma is very clever and along with that is stubborn - not a good combination! Anyway she said that Emma lags behind as soon as she knows I'm going to ask her to trot because she knows I can't "drive" her forward & along with this I'm to "kind" and "Soft" in the way I ask her to do things.
My instructor took Emma and lead her round, asked her to trot a few times and there was a notible difference just with her being alot firmer than me!
My old horse was terrified of whips and done what was asked of her through fear, someone had been very bad to her and this always plays on my mind even though I know being firm with a youngster is not going to result in the same thing! Also I'm always worried about telling her off at the wrong time and confusing her and of course she is my baby! So I learned today I have to be firmer and more elder like with my youngster not try and be her friend all the time :)

Sounds like you will be fine with a bit of time and patience!

It took my Una ages (like, a year or more!!) to get the hang of trotting inhand, even now she will sometimes refuse to do it lol! I think the breed can be somewhat lazy and stubborn and i've always thought my Una is a bit dim lol.
