Source of outbreak is most probably Purbright, It has not been spread from airborne, unlikey to be water spread, most likey to be Human error whether on purpose or accidently, several inviduals have been pin pointed
I have just been watching the local news. The 'air tight' lorries these infected cows that are being sent down here are canvas roofed. How the hell is that supposed to stop it spreading?!
OK - would you take your horse to yard about 40 miles outside the exclusion zone for a few days? Not so worried about risk of infection, but if there is another outbreak found near to this yard then the horse could get stuck away from home in an exclusion zone. Or are we all panicking? It's so hard to decide!
By moving your horse could you be accidently spreading FMD though? All the exclusion zone means is you can't take your horse off of the yard it is on. Is that a problem?
I'm talking about a friend who is planning a visit to our yard for a few days. She is nowhere near the exclusion zone, and we seem a good distance away - probably about 40 miles. However, my concern is that 40 miles isn't really that far, they haven't got to the bottom of these two outbreaks - so we don't know if it may spread further. She could end up stranded on our yard if there is an outbreak nearer to us.
Sorry if I'm being confusing!
Oh sorry its me reading your post wrong. Can she wait a week or so just to see if any more outbreaks are found etc. Like you say it won't be good if they get stuck with you.
It's a problem, leave is booked and all that, so it will be tricky to postpone it. We'll just have to talk it through, such a shame because we are so looking forward to it.
I keep thinking about the poor farmers involved, and the others who must be in such dread.
My sister actually lives in a flat opposite the Animal Health place in Pirbright so i've been getting updates on which TV lorries & reporters are outside each day!
I would have thought being so close they'd have disinfected their vehicles, or at least provided a disinfectant mat to drive over if it's airborne. In theory if she came up to visit me in Manchester she'd bring it up with her? I'm surprised there's nothing like this as she's literally the other side of the road (so close the flats are included in the aerial photos of the site).

I didn't like the wording of the deliberate infection, they have now closed foot paths in the area

Like hell they have!!!!!!!!! Left the yard about 7pm and footpath still open then (we are well within the 3km PZ and they have been culling deer today on the common, yet the f-inf footpath were still open).
