Update on Grace's lameness

I rode her this morning and the lady who will be riding her tomorrow and Sunday was there and watched for a while. She said she could definitely see it in the trot, and I don't know whether I was imagining it, but I am sure I could feel her tripping on the left hind.

So, I made the decision today to phone a lameness expert over in Halifax caller Peter Scholefield and she is booked in on Wednesday morning and will not come back without an answer. If it is something small like an abscess, the nerve block will show it up immediately as being the foot. And if it is something else, then she will be staying there while they investigate.

At least you will get peace of mind from the lameness expert - got my fingers crossed you get to the bottom of it. Try not to worry too much, altho i know its difficult not to xx

He has told me to make sure I ride her until Wednesday morning, but we have to be over in Halifax at 8.30am which means a VERY early morning and I am hoping Andy can come with me as I am not supposed to be doing very much. I just want to know what it is now, good or bad, as I owe it to her to find out.
 
You have a lot on your plate at the moment and I think you are doing the right thing because worry is no good for you.
My horse that had an abscess in the summer was a bit short on corners this time he was shod , he is resting for a month anyway because the event season is over and he looks fine run up and no heat but I am wondering if when I start to ride him again at the end of the month whether he will be still feeling it .I hate abscesses They can cause recurring problems ,so we may be in the same boat again.

It is not tripping as such, I can't explain it. It sort as feel as though it gives a bit when I start asking her to bring that leg under her more

She went on bute last night, so had two last night and one this morning.

I just think, at least if it is something like an abscess I can stop thinking about it and worrying it is something else. However, the more I thought about it, the more I have realised that when I lunged her last I did think she look more laboured on the left rein but just thought it was because she was tentative on the surface.

I am just not happy keep bringing her on if there is something niggling away...
 
Peter is very good Becki, I cant recommend him highly enough. I've taken Jethro over there twice now. I will always go to him with any problems/issues with legs etc.

Thanks hollibobs... He has been highly recommended to me so I thought rather than keep wondering and messing around, I should just do what I know is right in my head.

As for Grace - atleast you will know the answer next week and set your mind at rest and get on with what needs to be done xx
 
Thank you... I am hoping I get an answer next week with regards to Grace's lamenss. If I didn't go with my gut instinct and then I discovered further down the line that there was something that would have bene easier to treat earlier, I would never forgive myself.
 
good luck , peter is very good & has got such an eye for the slightest bit of unlevelness , i really rate him , even though he failed the last horse i had vetted
