Ok, her udders are now becoming very swollen and are no longer defined. As mentioned in a previous post one is bigger than the other. She also has a sort of 'deflated' look about her in the last few days:

P.S. Going to check on her at 11pm x

OH MY....how exciting!!!! I can hardly believe the time for her baby to arrive is almost upon us. Hasn't it flown? Wasn't it Hannah who worried you up at stud as she had to have a twin nipped out?

before she is due they will be so big and hard. looking like they will burst with how much milk she has! compared to our mare she probably has a while more to go!

Yes Patches... well remembered!

They are absolutely rock hard... and really full. They look more so in real life than that picture to be honest. She has quite droopy boobies, but they now have no definition and are full to bursting.

Seriously though - horses usually carry to term, although you are close I would not be getting too giddy yet - more than likely you have 2 more weeks.

She looks in great condition for time of the year and pregnancy- Although she does look alittle fed up, aww won't be too long now.

GT... slightly worrying!!!

They have tracked up her belly too... Most of the mares I have known have foaled a couple of weeks early, especially when they are not a maiden. I just think it is too cold yet and it's snowing, so would be very bad if it did come soon.

They will still keep expanding a lot more than they are at the moment.
You wont get any loose skin anywhere before she foals.
They will often start to look shiney with a white speckling appearing.
The contents will change from clear to a clear golden that is sticky and then thick white milk as the calcium concentrations rise.
Often in the last few days before foaling the mare will start to look poor over her back even if previously well covered as all the muscles start to relax to let the foal pass the the pelvic arch.

wowowowowowow!!! you must take ALOT of piccys of her when it happens and post them, take camera everywhere you go!!! what was the stallion like, what are you expecting it to be like? have no experiance with broodmares or what they should look like but she is positively BLOOOOOOMING!!
grin.gif
am all excited for you, wish best of luck!!!!! tehehehehe i love little baby things!!!

Thanks... I am a bit worried about her condition as she is looking very hippy and bony on her bottom. I don't think this picture shows it very well, but even my husband commented on it tonight and he knows nothing! I just hope I am feeding her enough...

Whats her vulva looking like? When she is due to foal her vulva will be very very puffy (with my current broodmare her vulva really extends in the last 24hrs.) Also her muscles around her pelvis will really slacken off & become extremely. Is the crease at the back of her udder staying filled yet?

Well, there will be the two halves, her bag won't look like a ball with two teats on it, but as Sallyf says, no loose skin, no wrinkles anywhere.

Hannah looks fine condition wise. Whilst you don't want her poor, it won't help her to be too fat either!

Not sure, not looked at the crease as didn't know this was something to look for.

Her vulva has become much longer, although not looked for puffiness, will do when I go back tonight. Want to check on her anyway because at least that way I will know what she is usually like at this time (there is a camera in her stable I can watch without going in you see)

I posted re the crease on your other thread!!!

Yes please take & piccy of the crease, & her vulva too if you don't mind posting that?

I'll make a point of checking for a post from you after 11pm.

I am so glad I took pictures of her udders... I cannot believe how much they have changed in three days! They were defined on 6th, but today they have totally merged into her bag. I wouldn't have seen that as much without the pictures.

Sorry, must not have seen it on the previous one... bit frantic with everything that is going on in my life, and then this is added stress and excitement

I hope this doesn't come across like "teaching Grandma to suck eggs"

Do you have any one to help you when it comes to actual foaling??
Is it your first foal? I'm sure I read its not Hannah's?
It does help to have someone with you to hold your hand so to speak

Just in case you need help in the birthing stage or even just to put the kettle on afterwards!!
My friend has had 16 foals the past few years and we make a pretty good team plus you always need some one to hold the camera whilst she/he is being born while you're flapping

Plus after the next 18 days you are going to be knackered.

Good luck with everything.

Thanks... I do have someone who I am to ring as soon as there is any advanced signs (waxing up for example). She has bred her own foal and her mare is due again a month after Hannah so we are doing each other a favour and being there for each other.

I would be fine if it was someone else's horse, but when it comes to Hannah I do flap because she is mine and I absolutely adore her! I remember when she was kicked really badly in the field (I was there when it happened and she was floored), everyone, including the vet when she first came, thought it was broken because of the way she was standing and collapsed whenever she put weight on it. I was a complete mess, totally useless and just could not do anything I was asked to do... but when it was someone elses a few months after I was the one who held the horse for the vets, comforted the owner, and generally did everything the vet needed me to.

It's like when it's your children I think... it is different somehow.

Hannah is in great condition, you dont want her any fatter at this point as she has quite a crest on her.
Dont forget the hard work has been done now and she wont have much room for a lot of food.
Her intake will double when the foal is born.
Her boobs wont droop at all later on they will fill out and you wont be able to get your hand up between then.
Sometimes they get so big that you wonder how a foal will be able to get a hold of them.
The odema can be quite normal , i used to have a mare that filled all along her belly and up in between her front legs ,like boobs on her chest.
It is just mammery activity.
I think she may keep you hanging on for a bit longer yet.
very exciting for you.

Does it look as though she has a crested neck? Oh god, it does on that photo, I'm going to be paranoid now!!!

I swear she does not have a crested neck (my absolute fear is a crested neck, because they are so hard to get rid of). This is more what she looks like (taken last week I think):

HannahandGrace010.jpg

Becki i think it must have been the angle she looks great.
Am paranoid as mine are a bit that way inclined.
This is a pic of three of mine due in April.
Excuse the mud as in winter paddock by the gate.

Thanks... I am totally paranoid about crested necks as I have seen a lot go flabby and stick there no matter how much exercise you do. Han did have a very strong topline before she stopped working, so hopefully we should be able to put that back on her when she is back in work.

I am so excited to see my foal, but worried sick that everything will not run smoothly. I don't think that changes the more foals you have, I know my friend does not find it any easier.

But I also cannot wait to ride Hannah again... I have so much to look forwards to once this foalie arrive (fingers, toes, eyes, legs, arms, etc etc all crossed) safely.

Yours all look very happy... I wish I could have Hannah out more but she gets bored on her own and stands neighing at me at the gate! She'll be out a lot more when the foal comes as it can keep her company!

You never know what is around the corner either
wink.gif

She looks really well and if you dont mind me saying you sound like you'll make a fab gran/mum/second mum (that sounds like you and Hannah are lesbians LOL) but you know what I mean. Im sure she's in the very best hands!

Aw thanks... I'm not so sure, but guess everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to breeding. I am just someone who does mind mind admitting they don't know something and wil seek advice where ever I can. I think the problems start when people read a book and think they know it all and will not accept more experienced people's advice.
