Update on Horse I viewed at the weekend

Hi,

Thank you to all who posted on my other thread, thanks for the advice it really helped :)

I went to see the Horse on Sat, he was lovely and well mannered. Owner hacked him to the hired school and I walked on foot, he looked really nice and I couldn't wait to get on and have a go, Owner walked, trotted and canterd both reins and then I got on. Within the first 5 laps I know he wasn't for me :( I walked and trotted him, he was very green and just rushed into trot, he was a little strong too and every corner he thought that meant canter so kept trying to rush off with me, not so much the confidence giver I was after :( So I got off and thanked the owner and said he wasn't for me, she was really nice about it though and wished me luck for finding my dream Horse.

So if anyone is bored and fancys Horse shopping here is what I am after.

14 hh- 15.3hh, 5-14 YO, Don't mind which sex, breed (although no heavy weight cobs please, light/middle weight cobs are fine though) all rounder, Doesn't have to be flashy, just a nice steady sensible confidence giver to have fun with. Don't mind the odd spook or yipee buck, But cannot be strong! must hack alone and in company, go to the odd local show. Live in or out, Snaffle mouthed at all times, up to £3500. Areas off Essex, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Kent . Thanks :)
 
Very honest and brave of you to say to the owner straight off that the horse isn't for you.

Have loads of luck finding something you click with. And don't worry too much when you are trying because horses, especially those used to only one rider, will definitely pick up on that. My first (actually very confidence-giving!) share horse took 3 or so circuits of the arena to stop when he panicked as I changed side with the whip (I didn't even then usually ride with one but his owner did and a previous one obviously had way too much...). Later we were great together :-)
 
Thanks Tickles, such a shame though as Pony was very sweet, but more off a project Pony, which I don't have the confidence for anymore :( with the right rider though that Pony will go very far.

Will have to keep looking! I suppose there is a bright side though as longer I have to find Horse, Longer I have to save some more money :D
 
Why is snaffled mouthed so important?

I have a horse which is lovely in a pelham, but leans on a snaffle. A delight to hack, but just doesn't respect a snaffle
 
It sounds as though you did a really good job of assessing this chap. Shame he wasn't for you, but you did the assessment & found that out before you wasted their time & yours, well done!

Fingers crossed you find your horsey match. Afraid I'm deep in the south west so not much help to you with regard to sourcing one. I would suggest though you look on the pony club classified website. Many good all rounders a varying rider levels. Where the horse is know to a PC TS it means you have another way of checking their behaviour when being ridden as well.

Very good of you to tell the owner! When I had my horse advertised for share I had people showing up, trying her and then disappearing off never to be heard from again! Was very disappointing when I had given up my afternoon.

Hope you find the right horse soon - if there's one thing I have learnt its not to take on anything if there is a doubt there!!

Thanks for the replys guys, I just hope I find something soon, Have everything already, have the tack room set up, stable empty and waiting now just need the perfect Horse.
