Update on horses killed in Winkfield

The law really is an ass!! He has got the same ban as anyone cought drink driving. killed 2 horses and severely injured 2 people, there sometimes is no justice!

That just about beggars belief, if he had ploughed into two pedestrians would the sentence have been the same? It appears to be almost acceptable to drive into horses, with the excuse of 'the sun was in my eyes', never mind that the driver was drunk

We are giving evidence in court next week due to a similar event that occured last May while my Mum, some friends and I were riding.
This story really makes me lose hope that justice will be served.

Utterly appalled at this sentence, what message does it give. My daughter was at PC with Lilly and know the fantastic job she did bringing on Tuppence from a youngster. She was a beautiful and fabulous horse and to lose both her and Rosemoor because of a drunk driver is just beyond belief, let alone what poor Hayley, Lilly and family must have gone through and still be going through.

Hang your heads in shame Slough magistrates court! What a brilliant example you have set to all the drink driving a**eholes. That poor family I cant imagine what they are going through.

Disgusting sentence - devastated for the family and what they have gone through and now the law laughs in the face of their pain - shocking :(

Sickening. I can't imagine what the family have been through - and the killer has just been given a tap on the wrist. Sickening.

that is awful poor family I personally think anyone that causes death by driving carelessly a vehicle regardless of the species should be sent to prison for at least 6 months. Unless it is an animal not under control so a dog cat or wild animal that just jumps out at the driver
Harsh but even killing people doesnt mean you go to jail now a days

Personally I think anyone causing an accident through drunk driving should be banned from driving for life - and jailed for 6 months

I completely agree with banning from driving for life. Nobody who causes an accident due to drink driving deserves to be allowed the freedom to drive again - let them use public transport and taxis to get around. That would be a more satisfactory sentence of inconvenience for life.

That is an extremely dangerous road, cars are always speeding along there. You would think if his argument was "blinded by the sun" he would have slowed down. That makes it worse that he didn't, not better for him I think. I just can't imagine what this poor family have gone through. I hope he is haunted by nightmares every night until he leaves this earth, because this family surely will be.

The British law is a sham. Criminals are protected and the innocent victims left to feel totally betrayed by our legal system.
Disgusting ! My heart goes out to the family.

Were the family not compensated for their injuries and the value of the horses ? Not that it would obviously replace or make it right but can't believe he didn't have to pay something ?

I find it sad that as a freelance illustrator he'll simply earn enough to pay his fines in a month or less, he'll do the drink awareness course and get his licence back and be driving if not drinking and driving again this time next year.

Meanwhile Hayley and Lilly will have months if not years and years of living with their injuries and the trauma of loosing their horses, particularly Hayleys wrist, the damage sounds horrendous.

Really do wonder at some of these sentences.:(

It's unbelievable if he had hit a car and badly injured two people surely he would have got a stiffer sentance there's no difference I don't understand it.

Without a doubt they should take Civil Action against the driver regarding their injuries & loss of their horses (although I accept they can't be replaced). Additionally they can petition the Crown Prosecution Service to appeal the sentence as being too lenient. If they succeed then the sentence can be increased.

A straight forward drink drive will automatically receive the mandatory 12 month ban. This case is different obviously because he caused serious injury to two other people & killed the 2 horses. I believe that there is a good case for an appeal.

I am horrified at this whole dreadful disaster for the family and their horses. Hope family appeal, driver is haunted for life by the carnage he caused, is financially and personally ruined and is overwhelmed with shame and is treated with disgust in his community. RIP lovely horses. Condolences to their family

Sadly it doesn't surprise me at all. Several years ago OH's cousin, her husband & their teenage daughter were all killed by a lorry driver who, having driven highly excessive hours, fell asleep at the wheel & swerved in front of their car. Even now OH's uncle has nightmares that the girl may have seen her parents being decapitated before she died. He got 4 months.
