First up is the continued saga of Jem's fetlock. Today she had a bandage change so snapped a picture. I'm pleased with it, as it looks to be granulating and the tissue looks healthy
. However she is going to end up with one hell of a lmpy scarred fetlock
. So as a comparison this was the picture taken last Wednesday.
And the picture from today.
Still a long way to go, but for he first time it is beginning to look like it is healing as opposed to getting bigger and deeper
.
Onto Pickle, he had his first BS show yesterday as I took up the 3 month BS for BE members offer. First up we did the BN, which I thought was pretty full up, and certiainly bigger than your average BE90 SJ track. Another girl who was walking the course next to commented it was the biggest BN she had seen. Glad it wasn't just me then
. The warm up was very busy and cramped, so I wasn't able to get Pickle as forwards as I would have liked, as he jumped best when I buzz him up a bit. In we went and it was evident the pair of us was a little out of practice (in fact barring a quick pop over a 3ft upright to test out a saddle, neither of us had jumped a fence since Oasby
). Jumped 1 fine, fence 2 was next to the side of the arena, and Pickle was far more interested in what the people watching him were doing, add to this the fact I buried him in deep and of course it came clattering down behind us. 3 was on a perfect 4 stride related distance, therefore I had the bright idea I would hold for 5
. We were a bit deep, but Pickle was good and got us out of trouble. 4 was a turn back across the arena, heading straight towards the warm up. Had a nice stride, but Pickle was watching the horse waiting to come in next, and promptly knocked the fence down
. At this point I gave myself a mental kick up the backside and Pickle a bit of a kick and half halt to get him to concentrate, and then he just flew the rest. We had finally found the canter required, met each fence nicely and finished with just the 8 faults.
In my wisdom I then decided to enter him for the 1m Scope qualifier. I watched whilst they put the fences up 2 holes for the BN jump off..............then put them up yet another 2 holes for the 1m class
. Walked the course, and it was far bigger than any BE100 track I have seen, in fact it would have given some Novice tracks I have seem a run for their money! The spreads were huge. I got as far as fence 2, and turned slightly green shade
. 5 was a treble, which Pickle has never seem before
, and there was a decent water tray at fence 10 which was the last
I over heard a group of local pros commenting how big it was for a 1m class, with 1 saying ot was the biggest 1m they had ever seen. Glad it isn't just my eyes that are out height wise
!. It was a good thing I was 3rd to go, so not much chance to worry, however I did comment to Mother I would be pleased make it round, with horse and rider still in 1 piece
. I we went, and having learnt my lesson from the previous round I made sure I got Pickle well fired up. All I can say is Pickle was fab
. He rose to the challene and we flew round. It was a bit untidy, and certainly on the fast side, but Pickle felt like he was having an absolute ball
. Pickle just rubbed the front rail off an oxer at 4, but he flew down the treble foot perfect. We came to the water tray at the last, and Pickle saw the tray just as he took off, twisted in mid air, and somehow I managed to knock the wing down with my foot
. So we finished on 8 faults again, but I was beyond chuffed to bits with my little horse.
Unfortunately the Team Charlimouse photographer was not in attendance, but a pro was, so here is a link to the pictures. As ever the fences look much smaller than they were in real life
. There are 2 sets of pics of me (1 from each class), I am the blue and white horse, with my stand out eventers tweed

Next on the cards for Pickle is Breckenborough BE90, then Northallerton BE100.
Finally I decided it was time to give Celeste her first jump, so today I set up a jumping lane and gave her a small loose jump. She took to it like a duck to water
