On Friday the vet, the owner and we (who have her on permanent loan) agreed that it would not be fair to keep Nancy going if her breathing cannot be improved considerably. She was found to have a temperature of 104.5 which was very high and could mean that she has had an underlying infection all this time which has made things much worse.
We are trying her on a combination of steroids (even more pressure to watch her grass intake!), Ventapulmin and antibiotics, with a view to using Ventapulmin on a maintenance level rather than treating as and when she is bad. We have to report to vet tomorrow but as I write I am sad to say there has not been a great improvement.
She looks the picture of health, gleaming coat, bright eyes, no reluctance to munch but yesterday she was grunting when exhaling which was a bit different to normal.
Poor little Nancy.
