Update from this thread - https://forums.horseandhound.co.uk/...atment-thermofield-hyperthermia-chemo.821706/. Posting in case it’s useful for others considering this new treatment.

Finn’s had his treatment and is recovering aka stuffing his face in the field until I collect him tmrw. He’s doing well so now it’s monitoring him and aftercare. He’s had laser surgery to remove the ones under his tail/bum and thermafield and chemo? (using cisplatin) on his head lumps. They also did ECT on the head as that can improve effectiveness of the chemo drugs he’s had (I’m not very technically minded so not sure I’m explaining it correctly!).

The RVC wanted him in asap so I didn’t get chance to practice getting him any better with needles. Given how he was, I don’t think it would have made enough difference anyway as he was very difficult to treat, even heavily sedated. He ended up needing general anaesthetic as he wouldn’t tolerate the surgery under standing sedation. But that meant they could have good look around and fully treat everything they wanted to. He’s back in next week to remove ones around his sheath and have the 2nd thermafield treatment.

The aftercare seems fairly straightforward (although he may be tricky about applying cream to his bum) and there’s nothing to do on the head but monitor it. I’ve been warned it could swell up, die off and explode in some black oozy gunk ? or it could just shrink over time. The vet there hasn’t treated lumps quite as big as Finn’s before but he’s hopeful this treatment will help, even if it may not remove them completely. It does sound like the surgery is effective and they don’t come back to that area again.

Finn was so pleased to see me at the weekend ? I think he thought I was taking him home. I’ve told him it’s for his own good in the long term but he’s not convinced just yet! I’ll be very glad to get him back to the yard tmrw and start the recovery ?

Thanks all! I’ll give it a few more weeks to update on whether this specific treatment seems to be working on his head lumps. In the meantime, he’s had all manner of complications with everything else which has proven really stressful. He’s still not 100% stable but he’s home and the vet just upped his pain meds for a few days - am hoping that will help!

He ended up having 2 sessions of this treatment and we’ve agreed not to go for the 3rd just yet given all his other issues ? but the vet hopes he’s had 2 good doses which will help.
