So, Murray will be leaving us tomorrow to go to a new foster home. We had a guest in our apartment last night (from the rescue), and when she went to pet him, he bit her (hard) and stood there snarling. I poked his shoulder, told him enough, and he snapped out of it. He guarded me the whole time, though. This incident follows him trying to attack Stella a second time, several days ago.
It is clear that Murray needs much more than what we can offer him (NILF training; 2/3 hours of active exercise per day; love; boundaries). The new foster has extensive experience with guarding breeds, and will be working in conjunction with the rescue's trainer, who is going to put in place an intensive rehabilitation structure.
It has been a trying, very sad couple of weeks, and I don't feel we were given the whole truth about Murray upfront, but we tried our level best, and will keep in touch with the new foster to hear about his progress. (The rescue has a no-kill policy, by the way.)
