So, Murray will be leaving us tomorrow to go to a new foster home. We had a guest in our apartment last night (from the rescue), and when she went to pet him, he bit her (hard) and stood there snarling. I poked his shoulder, told him enough, and he snapped out of it. He guarded me the whole time, though. This incident follows him trying to attack Stella a second time, several days ago.

It is clear that Murray needs much more than what we can offer him (NILF training; 2/3 hours of active exercise per day; love; boundaries). The new foster has extensive experience with guarding breeds, and will be working in conjunction with the rescue's trainer, who is going to put in place an intensive rehabilitation structure.

It has been a trying, very sad couple of weeks, and I don't feel we were given the whole truth about Murray upfront, but we tried our level best, and will keep in touch with the new foster to hear about his progress. (The rescue has a no-kill policy, by the way.)

U did try hun....dont let it put u off getting another in due time...sounds like he will get what he needs, with someone more experienced to deal with this type of problem....its hard...and time consuming at the best oftimes...can u imagine dealing with multiples of dogs like this

So sorry to hear about Murray but sounds like you've made the right decision both for you and for little Stella.
Let us know how Murray gets on at his new home.
Cheer up and A big pat to lovely Stella

At least now he is going to a home that can work with him, and you really did try your best so don't feel like you've let anyoen down.

We were given a rescue dog once (well, she was going to go to an animal shleter but we said we'd take her) Told she was good with kids, other dogs etc. Well what a lie that turned out to be! She snapped at a few people (including biting my youn cousin) and we couldn't risk keeping her, but didn't want her passed pillar to post so we decided it would be kinder to PTS.

It turned out the poor wee thing had been kept locked in a dark garage and the only real time it had any interaction was when she was being fed. It makes me so sad that she had been put through that.

at least you tried, there is obviously something more there which has not been brought to ur attention such a shame, its so sad what people will do to a dog.

we had a new foundland cross pup come in to the kennels once he was saved from a group of kids that were using him as a football and then tried to drown him.
